Measurement of the velocity of gases with variable fluid properties [PDF]

open access: yesAIChE Journal, 1968
AbstractThis paper describes the experimental measurements of the time‐averaged velocities of gases in a field of variable composition and temperature. The conventional theory of hot‐wire anemometry is extended to include the effects of both natural and forced convection to gases having variable fluid properties.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Velocity-Based Monte Carlo Fluids

open access: yesSpecial Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques Conference Conference Papers
We present a velocity-based Monte Carlo fluid solver that overcomes the limitations of its existing vorticity-based counterpart. Because the velocity-based formulation is more commonly used in graphics, our Monte Carlo solver can be readily extended with various techniques from the fluid simulation literature. We derive our method by solving the Navier-

Algebraic Decay of Velocity Fluctuations in a Confined Fluid [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1997
Computer simulations of a colloidal particle suspended in a fluid confined by rigid walls show that, at long times, the velocity correlation function decays with a negative algebraic tail. The exponent depends on the confining geometry, rather than the spatial dimensionality.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

An experimental investigation into the constant velocity water entry of wedge-shaped sections

open access: yes, 2008
Constant velocity water entry is important in understanding planing and slamming of marine vessels. A test rig has been developed that drives a wedge section with end plates down guides to enter the water vertically at near constant velocity. Entry force

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Ocean energy harvester based on piezoelectric VIV using different oscillators [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
A finite element fluid-solid coupling model for ocean energy harvester based on piezoelectric vortex-induced vibration(VIV) is established. Given that the Karman Vortex Street is generated after the fluid passes through the vibrator.
