Monitoring mitochondrial [Ca2+] dynamics with rhod-2, ratiometric pericam and aequorin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Producción CientíficaThe dynamics of mitochondrial [Ca2+] ([Ca2+]M) plays a key role in a variety of cellular processes. The most important methods available to monitor [Ca2+]M are fluorescent dyes such as rhod-2 and specifically targeted proteins such

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Recent Progress in Research on [2.2]Paracyclophane-Based Dyes

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
In recent years, the [2.2]paracyclophane (PCP) ring has attracted extensive attention due to its features of providing not only chirality and electron-donating ability but also steric hindrance, which reduces intermolecular π–π stacking interactions and ...

Thermalization of a two-dimensional photon gas in a polymeric host matrix [PDF]

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics 14, 075019 (2012), 2012
We investigate thermodynamic properties of a two-dimensional photon gas confined by a dye-filled optical microcavity. A thermally equilibrated state of the photon gas is achieved by radiative coupling to a heat bath that is realized with dye molecules embedded in a polymer at room temperature. The chemical potential of the gas is freely adjustable. The

Polyfunctional CD8+CD226+RUNX2hi effector T cells are diminished in advanced stages of chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

A simple way to identify non-viable cells within living plant tissue using confocal microscopy

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2008
Background Plant cell death is a normal process during plant development. Mutant plants may exhibit misregulation of this process, which can lead to severe growth defects. Simple ways of visualising cell death in living plant tissues can aid the study of

Far-field Super-resolution Imaging with Dual-Dye-Doped Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We propose to achieve super-resolution in far-field imaging by use of dual-dye-doped nanoparticles. The nanoparticles with a diameter of a few nanometers are co-doped with two types of dye molecules, namely, Cy3 and Cy5, at a controllable ratio. Due to the short distances between the dye molecules confined in the nanoparticles, Forster resonant energy ...

Confocal and multiphoton imaging of intracellular Ca2+ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This chapter compares the imaging capabilities of a range of systems including multiphoton microscopy in regard to measurements of intracellular Ca2+ within living cells. In particular, the excitation spectra of popular fluorescent

TRPM4 contributes to cell death in prostate cancer tumor spheroids, and to extravasation and metastasis in a zebrafish xenograft model system

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Transient receptor potential melastatin‐4 (TRPM4) is overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa). Knockout of TRPM4 resulted in reduced PCa tumor spheroid size and decreased PCa tumor spheroid outgrowth. In addition, lack of TRPM4 increased cell death in PCa tumor spheroids.

Taming fluorescent dyes with cucurbituril

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2005
The potential of the supramolecular host molecule cucurbit[7]uril to serve as a stabilizing additive and enhancement agent was investigated for the following dyes in aqueous solution: rhodamine 6G, rhodamine 123, tetramethylrhodamine, cresyl violet ...
