Hybrid fluorocarbon/hydrocarbon surfactants

Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science, 2005
Abstract In this review, the latest research on surfactants having both a fluorocarbon chain and a hydrocarbon chain in their molecules, namely hybrid surfactants , is described. Novel anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants have been recently synthesized. Anionic hybrid surfactants with an ethylene spacer, F(CF 2 ) m C 2 H 4 CH(OSO 3 Na)(CH 2 )

Potential Use of Fluorocarbons in Lung Surfactant Therapy

Artificial Cells, Blood Substitutes, and Biotechnology, 2007
Exogenous surfactant therapy based on animal lung extract preparations has been developed successfully for the treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. However, because of the inherent limitations of these natural preparations, the development of new synthetic surfactants is a major objective.

Theoretical Research on Fluorocarbon Surfactant of Fluorocarbon-Based Magnetic Fluid

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In this paper, we briefly introduce the concept, composition and the research frontiers of nano-fluorocarbon-based magnetic fluids; then discuss the superior performance, classification and synthesis of the fluorocarbon surfactant in detail and systematically; last, we made an example to illustrate fluoro olefin telomerization method.

Perfluoroalkylated Phospholipids as Surfactants and Co-Surfactants for Injectable Fluorocarbon Emulsions

Biomaterials, Artificial Cells and Immobilization Biotechnology, 1992
Highly fluorinated phospholipids were investigated as sole surfactant, and as co-surfactant with egg yolk phospholipids (EYP), in the formulation of 50% and 100% w/v perfluorodecalin emulsions. The surfactant's capability to stabilize such emulsions improves with the length of the perfluoroalklylated tail and with the increase of its relative weight in

Interactions between fluorocarbon surfactants and polysaccharides

Journal of Molecular Liquids, 2019
Abstract Interactions between the mixtures of fluorine surfactants (FS) of different chemical character (anionic - Capstone FS-64, cationic - S-106A and non-ionic - Capstone FS-30) and polysaccharides (anionic – carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), cationic starch (CS) and non-ionic – hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC)) have been investigated by surface tension,

Telomeric Tham-Derived Perfluoroalkylated Surfactants for Fluorocarbon Emulsions

Biomaterials, Artificial Cells and Immobilization Biotechnology, 1992
New fluorophilic and hydrophilic, cost efficient telomeric surfactants derived from tris(hydroxymethyl)acrylaminomethane were synthesized in 2 steps in 80% yield with respect to the perfluoroalkylated telogen. They demonstrate better ability to emulsify fluorocarbons than Pluronic f-68.

Interactions of fluorocarbon-modified poly(acrylic acid) with a cationic fluorocarbon surfactant

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2003
Abstract The physicochemical properties of mixed systems of fluorocarbon-modified poly(acrylic acid) (FA) with a cationic fluorocarbon surfactant, bis(2-hydroxyethyl)(2-hydroxy-3-perfluoro-octylpropyl)methylammonium chloride (DEFUMAC), have been investigated by surface tension, fluorescence, solubility, and 19F NMR spin–lattice relaxation ...

Fluorocarbons as Volatile Surfactants

Langmuir, 1998
Surface active properties of volatile vapors of fluorocarbon substances such as C6F14, C8F18, and C10F18 have been discovered. In a new phenomenon of capillary instability some perpetual oscillatory and rotary movements of many liquids take place due to a change of their surface tensions by 10−30% at contact with C8F18 vapor at room temperature ...

Monolayers Prepared from Phosphazene Functionalized Fluorocarbon Surfactants

Langmuir, 1998
Surface pressure vs surface area measurements, surface plasmon spectroscopy, imaging by atomic force microscopy (AFM), and molecular modeling have established the formation of well-packed monolayers from hexakis(tetrahydroperfluorododecanoxyl)cyclotriphosphazene, IT, with the hydrophilic phosphazene ring lying on the water surface and the fluorinated ...

Hyperbranched Hydrocarbon Surfactants Give Fluorocarbon-like Low Surface Energies

Langmuir, 2014
Two series of Aerosol-OT-analogue surfactants (sulfosuccinate-type di-BCnSS and sulfoglutarate-type di-BCnSG) with hyperbranched alkyl double tails (so-called "hedgehog" groups, carbon number n = 6, 9, 12, and 18) have been synthesized and shown to demonstrate interfacial properties comparable to those seen for related fluorocarbon (FC) systems ...
