Staining of constitutive heterochromatin in mammalian chromosomes with a new fluorochrome

Experimental Cell Research, 1972
Abstract A simple and direct fluorescence staining procedure is described in this note by which chromosomal segments of constitutive heterochromatin and (in the mouse) sites of repetitious DNA can be visualized in mammalian chromosomes with a benzimidazol derivative “33258 Hoechst” belonging to a class of DNA-binding fluorochromes different from ...

Fluorochrome Stains for Histological Diagnosis of Visceral Mycoses

Nature, 1965
FLUORESCENCE microscopy facilitates the demonstration of various fungi in tissues, because it is possible to examine larger parts of the tissue-sections in a short time. Simple stains with fluorochrome dyes—acridine orange, for example—are inadequate for diagnostic use.

Classification and naming of dyes, stains and fluorochromes

Biotechnic and Histochemistry, 2001
A classification of dyes and other colorants is proposed, based on the chemical features responsible for their visibility and generally consonant with the writings of modern color chemists. The scheme differs in several respects from that of the Colour Index (CI), but it retains some traditional small groups of dyes that include biological stains ...

Fluorochroming Nuclei of Gold Chloride-Stained Motor Endings

Stain Technology, 1962
Four millimeter cubes of muscle were soaked in 1% citric acid, 10 min; stained 60 min in 1% Au Cl3,; then reduced 24 hr in 20% formic acid. Small pieces of muscle were teased on a slide and flooded with a single fluorescent dye or combination of fluorochromes.

Fluorochrome-Labeled Deoxyribonuclease: Specific Stain for Cell Nuclei

Science, 1968
Nuclei of cells in tissue culture may be stained with deoxyribonuclease labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate; this is a simple, rapid, and specific process which is useful in localizing DNA in situ .

An improved method for the fluorochrome staining of mycobacteria in tissues and smears.

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1970
An improved fluorochrome method for staining mycobacteria in both smears and tissue sections is presented. This method includes important modifications in deparaffinization, decolorization technics, and the coverslipping of material. Mycobacteria are stained so intensely that they may be examined in a lighted room.

Nucleoli Visualized by Silver Staining Combined with A New Rna-Specific Fluorochrome

Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 1979
A technique for distinguishing nucleolar components by light microscopy is described. Silver staining is used for localizing nuceolar-organizing regions. A new RNA-specific fluorochrome, 4''-6-bis(2'-imidazolinyl-4'-5'H)-2-phenyl-4'-phenoxyindole, visualizes the RNA-containing "partes fibrillares et granulares" of the nucleolus.
