Along the NE Pamir margin, flights of late Quaternary fluvial terraces span actively deforming fault-related folds. We present detailed results on two terraces dated using optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and cosmogenic radionuclide 10 Be (CRN ...

Relict fluvial terraces on the Tsondab Flats, Namibia
Journal of Arid Environments, 1979Within the hyper-arid central dune Namib, the dune-free Tsondab Flats, extending 40 km west from Tsondab Vlei, are characterized by terraced topography incised into a conglomerate-capped red sandstone. The hypothesis is posed that the terraces are fluvial in origin and that they preserve a record of fluvial incision and arid interruption.

Fluvial cut-and-fill terraces record climate oscillations
2020Using a model of long-term fluvial erosion and sediment transport (Yuan et al., 2019, JGR-SE), we demonstrate and quantify a direct, physical explanation for the relationship between climate oscillations and the formation of fluvial cut-and-fill terraces.

Geomorphology, 2000
Palaeohydrological studies indicate that the use of sedimentary palaeoclimatic indicators in fluvial sediments still requires rigorous calibration of the climatic controls on the formation of those indicators. An explorative attempt is made using a simulation experiment with the FLUVER2 model.

Late Quaternary fluvial terrace evolution in the main southern Amazonian tributary
CATENA, 2014Abstract Late Quaternary sedimentary deposits from Amazonian lowlands are important geological archives for understanding the origin, evolution and controls of the largest fluvial drainage basin on Earth. Climate has been most often claimed as the main factor affecting river evolution in this region.

River terrace development by concurrent fluvial processes and climatic changes
Geomorphology, 1993Abstract Along the Usui River in central Japan, three well-developed terrace levels are observed. Each terrace is subdivided into two segments: a filltop terrace along the upper reach and a strath terrace along the lower one. Three valley fillings with coarse gravel beds in the upper reach correspond to the last three glacial ages.

Pleistocene tectonics inferred from fluvial terraces of the northern Upper Rhine Graben, Germany
Tectonophysics, 2007This study of fluvial terraces of the River Rhine and tributaries aims to search for indications of Pleistocene tectonic activity. The study area includes the northern Upper Rhine Graben (URG), the Mainz Basin and the adjacent Rhenish Massif with the Middle Rhine Valley.

Ultramafic Aridisols on a sequence of fluvial terraces in Baja California
Geoderma Regional, 2019Abstract Practically all arid ultramafic soils in North America are in Baja California. An arid watershed in Baja California was found to have terraces with soil parent materials dominated by serpentinized peridotite. The soils on a sequence of four fluvial surfaces in the watershed were studied in order to trace the path of serpentine soil ...

Cosmogenic dating of fluvial terraces in the Sorbas Basin, SE Spain
2014Long term fluvial incision spanning the Late Cenozoic is recorded in many fluvial systems around the world by terrace landform sequences. The incision manifests itself as inset sequences of river terraces which form terrace staircases. The timing of the onset of incision and the rate incision then proceeds at is poorly constrained due to the ...
