A formal method for identifying distinct states of variability in time-varying sources: SgrA* as an example

open access: yes, 2014
Continuously time variable sources are often characterized by their power spectral density and flux distribution. These quantities can undergo dramatic changes over time if the underlying physical processes change. However, some changes can be subtle and

Large density amplification measured on jets ejected from a magnetized plasma gun [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Observation of a large density amplification in the collimating plasma jet ejected from a coplanar coaxial plasma gun is reported. The jet velocity is ~30 km s^-1 and the electron density increases from ~10^20 to 10^(22–23) m^-3.

Photospheric Injection of Magnetic Helicity: Connectivity-Based Flux Density Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Magnetic helicity quantifies the degree to which the magnetic field in a volume is globally sheared and/or twisted. This quantity is believed to play a key role in solar activity due to its conservation property.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Comments on Flux and Flux Density

open access: yesHortScience, 1988
Abstract A recent update supplement of the ASHS Publications Manual (1) states that photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) shall now be called photosynthetic photon flux (PPF). This decision appears to be based on a Feature article by Holmes et al. (2), which suggested that flux density was seriously misused to describe flux.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Critical heat flux density in diphasic thermosyphons

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The paper presents an analysis of known dependencies for determining the critical heat flux density in diphasic thermosyphons. The critical heat flux density for the created experimental model of thermosyphon were calculated on the basis of the ...

Fermionic currents in AdS spacetime with compact dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We derive a closed expression for the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the fermionic current density in a (D+1)-dimensional locally AdS spacetime with an arbitrary number of toroidally compactified Poincare spatial dimensions and in the presence of a ...
