Preparation and properties of open-cell zinc foams as human bone substitute material [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2019
Foamed zinc was prepared by infiltration casting process. The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the samples were studied, and the feasibility of the foamed zinc as a bone implant material was discussed. All the compression stress-strain

Towards Understanding of Pore Properties of polystyrene-b-polybutadiene-b-polystyrene (SEBS) Foam Effect on Thermal Conductivity Using Numerical Analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2022
Thermoplastic elastomer Polystyrene-b-polybutadiene-b-polystyrene (SEBS) foams are prepared by using carbon dioxide (CO2) as a blowing agent via a pressure quench method.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Foam cells and the pathogenesis of kidney disease [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2015
Foam cells in human glomeruli can be encountered in various renal diseases including focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and diabetic nephropathy. Although foam cells are key participants in atherosclerosis, surprisingly little is known about their pathogenicity in the kidney. We review our understanding (or lack thereof) of foam cells in the kidney, as

Spiromastixones Inhibit Foam Cell Formation via Regulation of Cholesterol Efflux and Uptake in RAW264.7 Macrophages

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2015
Bioassay-guided evaluation shows that a deep sea-derived fungus, Spiromastix sp. MCCC 3A00308, possesses lipid-lowering activity. Chromatographic separation of a culture broth resulted in the isolation of 15 known depsidone-based analogues, labeled ...

Effectiveness of microwave processing approach and green blowing agents usage in foaming natural rubber

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
This study mainly concerns the role of foam heating process techniques and its impact on cellular micromorphology, density and gas liberation mechanism of natural rubber foam with distilled water as blowing agent. Three different modes of heating process

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Smooth Muscle Cell—Macrophage Interactions Leading to Foam Cell Formation in Atherosclerosis: Location, Location, Location

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Cholesterol-overloaded cells or “foam cells” in the artery wall are the biochemical hallmark of atherosclerosis, and are responsible for much of the growth, inflammation and susceptibility to rupture of atherosclerotic lesions.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.
