Lipopolysaccharide-induced gene expression in murine macrophages is enhanced by prior exposure to oxLDL

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Uptake of modified lipoproteins by macrophages results in the formation of foam cells. We investigated how foam cell formation affects the inflammatory response of macrophages. Murine bone marrow-derived macrophages were treated with oxidized LDL (oxLDL)

Bioactive glass-ceramic scaffolds from novel 'inorganic gel casting' and sinter-crystallization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Highly porous wollastonite-diopside glass-ceramics have been successfully obtained by a new gel-casting technique. The gelation of an aqueous slurry of glass powders was not achieved according to the polymerization of an organic monomer, but as the ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Mitochondrial Transplantation Enhances Phagocytic Function and Decreases Lipid Accumulation in Foam Cell Macrophages

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Macrophages have mechanisms for eliminating cholesterol from cells. If excess cholesterol is not eliminated from the macrophages, then transformation into a foam cell may occur.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Electrochemistry‐Based Assay for Monitoring of Adherent Macrophages and Foam Cells on Ab‐CD36 Modified Electrospun Nanofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Atherosclerosis, a major cause of heart attacks, is a chronic inflammatory disease marked by the accumulation of lipid‐laden foam cells and immune cells in the arterial wall.

Targeting foam cell formation in inflammatory brain diseases by the histone modifier MS‐275

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, 2020
Objective To assess class I‐histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition on formation of lipid‐accumulating, disease‐promoting phagocytes upon myelin load in vitro, relevant for neuroinflammatory disorders like multiple sclerosis (MS) and cerebral X‐linked ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.
