X-ray microtomographic characterization and quantification of the strain rate dependent failure mechanism in cenosphere epoxy syntactic foams [PDF]
This work investigates the failure mechanism in cenosphere epoxy syntactic foams at the quasi-static and dynamic strain rates. Split-Hopkinson pressure bar experiments are controlled to stop dynamic deformation of the foams at various strain stages.

Sl(N) link homology using foams and the Kapustin-Li formula [PDF]
We use foams to give a topological construction of a rational link homology categorifying the slN link invariant, for N>3. To evaluate closed foams we use the Kapustin-Li formula adapted to foams by Khovanov and Rozansky.

Failure mechanism of PMI foam core sandwich beam in bending
Polymethacrylimide (PMI) foams have been widely applied in aerospace engineering as the core material of sandwich structures. This paper proposes a modified model to predict the constitutive relation of PMI foams and compares it to existing testing data.

Coating open-cell foams by a catalytic layer is a necessary step to obtain structured catalytic foam reactors. The dip-coating method, consisting of immersing the foam in a suspension or in a sol-gel, is generally used to obtain the coating.

The spin foam framework provides a way to define the dynamics of canonical loop quantum gravity in a spacetime covariant way, by using a path integral over histories of quantum states which can be interpreted as `quantum space-times'. This chapter provides a basic introduction to spin foams aimed principally at beginning graduate students and, where ...

Mechanical behavior of open-cell aluminium foams filled with tin-bronze foams
The interior pore of open-cell aluminium foams filled with bronze foams is a new method of preparing aluminium foams composite. The voids of bronze foams were fabricated by in situ thermal decomposition of space-holder in a powder metallurgical sintering

Bioactive glass-ceramic scaffolds from novel 'inorganic gel casting' and sinter-crystallization [PDF]
Highly porous wollastonite-diopside glass-ceramics have been successfully obtained by a new gel-casting technique. The gelation of an aqueous slurry of glass powders was not achieved according to the polymerization of an organic monomer, but as the ...
