Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Mechanisms of Focal Adhesions

open access: yes, 2018
Focal adhesions are dynamic multiprotein structures connecting cells to their surrounding microenvironment. Cells receive critical mechanical signals from adhesions that control many cellular processes including wound healing, differentiation, development, and cancer.

Molecular Mechanisms of Proteinuria in Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2018
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is the most common primary glomerular disease resulting in end-stage renal disease in the USA and is increasing in prevalence worldwide. It is a diverse clinical entity with idiopathic, genetic, metabolic, infectious, and other causes that culminate in a characteristic histologic pattern of injury.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Correlations of earthquake focal mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1992
SUMMARY We performed a statistical analysis of the Harvard catalogue of seismic moment tensor solutions. We investigated the distribution of hypocentres on focal spheres of earthquakes. The hypocentres are concentrated along fault planes; the hypocentre distribution does not significantly differ for earthquakes in different depth ranges.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

FocoNet: Transformer‐Based Focal‐Mechanism Determination

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation
Traditional focal‐mechanism determination primarily relies on fitting the first‐motion polarities with grid‐search algorithms. We developed a machine‐learning model, FocoNet, to include more seismic information into focal mechanism determination.

Study on the attenuation relationship of the acceleration envelope parameters for the Wenchuan earthquake aftershocks

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The seismic attenuation relationship between ground motion parameters (such as peak acceleration and response spectra value) and seismic parameters (such as magnitude and epicentral distance) is an important foundation for seismic hazard analysis and the

Mechanisms of Disease Reversal in Focal and Segmental Glomerulosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Chronic Kidney Disease, 2014
It is well known that progression of chronic kidney disease can be ameliorated or stabilized by different interventions, but more studies indicate that it can even be reversed. Most data suggest that current therapy, especially renin-angiotensin system inhibition alone, is not sufficient to initiate and maintain long-term regression of glomerular ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
