Protein design based on folding models
Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 2001The basic rules governing the folding of small, single-domain proteins are being discovered. New algorithms that can predict the major features of the folding process give the opportunity to design and optimise protein folding in a rational way. Recent experimental works suggest that sequence-specific features should be integrated in folding models to ...

Bifurcations in an asymmetric vocal-fold model
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995A two-mass model of vocal-fold vibrations is analyzed with methods from nonlinear dynamics. Bifurcations are located in parameter planes of physiological interest (subglottal pressure, stiffness of the folds). It is shown that a sufficiently large tension imbalance of the left and right vocal fold induces bifurcations to subharmonic regimes, toroidal ...

\ensuremath{\alpha}-nucleus single-folding cluster optical potentials based upon the \ensuremath{\alpha}-cluster model and an \ensuremath{\alpha}-\ensuremath{\alpha} interaction were generated for $m\ensuremath{\alpha}$-cluster structure targets $(m=3,$ 4, 6, 7, and 8).

Bifurcations in a vocal fold model
Nonlinear Dynamics, 1995An autonomous fourth order model of vocal fold vibrations is proposed. Each fold is represented by a lower and upper mass, and the aerodynamic forces are derived from a modified Bernoulli equation. The model exhibits many features of normal phonation in a wide parameter region.

Bacterial Chemotaxis Optimization for Protein Folding Model
2009 Fifth International Conference on Natural Computation, 2009To improve protein folding simulations, bacterial chemotaxis optimization (BCO) was investigated on a 2D lattice model. BCO is a novel intelligent problem solving technique inspired from the foraging behavior of bacteria. We compared BCO with standard genetic algorithm (SGA), Immune Genetic Algorithm (IGA), and Artificial Immune System (AIS) for ...

Analyzing energy landscapes for folding model proteins
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006A new benchmark 20-bead HP model protein sequence (on a square lattice), which has 17 distinct but degenerate global minimum (GM) energy structures, has been studied using a genetic algorithm (GA). The relative probabilities of finding particular GM conformations are determined and related to the theoretical probability of generating these structures ...

The maltoporin of Salmonella typhimurium: sequence and folding model
Research in Microbiology, 1990The sequence of the lamB gene from Salmonella typhimurium was determined. It encodes the precursor to the LamB protein from S. typhimurium (pre-LamBS.t.; 452 residues) which presents extensive homologies with the pre-LamB protein from Escherichia coli (pre-LamBE.c.; 446 residues). The first third of pre-LamBS.t.

Folding Models of Mini-Protein FSD-1
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2012We have carried out all-atom action-derived molecular dynamics (ADMD) folding simulations of the full-size FSD-1. FSD-1 is a designed mini-protein of 28 residues containing both α and β secondary structure elements. Multiple folding pathways are found for FSD-1, which is consistent with existing computational studies.

Optimization of Synthetic Vocal Fold Models for Glottal Closure
Journal of Engineering and Science in Medical Diagnostics and Therapy, 2022Abstract Synthetic, self-oscillating models of the human vocal folds are used to study the complex and inter-related flow, structure, and acoustical aspects of voice production. The vocal folds typically collide during each cycle, thereby creating a brief period of glottal closure that has important implications for flow, acoustic, and ...
