The building block folding model and the kinetics of protein folding [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Engineering, Design and Selection, 2001
Here we show that qualitatively, the building blocks folding model accounts for three-state versus the two-state protein folding. Additionally, it is consistent with the faster versus slower folding rates of the two-state proteins. Specifically, we illustrate that the building blocks size, their mode of associations in the native structure, the number ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A new stretch‐twist‐fold model for fast dynamo [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2007
AbstractPreliminary results on a new Stretch‐Twist‐Fold (STF) kinematic model for fast dynamo are presented. The evolution is prescribed by equations that govern the simultaneous stretching, writhing and coiling of a magnetic flux‐tube by diffeomorphism of the initial circular configuration. Simple estimates based on minimized magnetic energy show that

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Study on the Tooth Profile Parameters Design Method of Crown Gear Coupling for Helicopter Tail Folding Device

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2022
Shipboard helicopter folding technology can increase the number of helicopters parked on board aircraft carriers. Crown gear coupling is the trend in helicopter tail rotor folding technology due to its ability to automatically and quickly engage and ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

FDserver: A web service for protein folding research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
*Summary:* To facilitate the study of protein folding, we have developed a web service for protein folding rate and folding type prediction as well as for the calculation of a variety of topological parameters of protein structure, which is freely ...
