Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi May Account for a Phosphorus‐Facilitation Strategy

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mycorrhizal phosphorus (P)‐scavenging strategies are inefficient in severely P‐impoverished environments; yet many mycorrhizal species occur here. How these species acquire P and how their acquisition coordinates with root and leaf traits remain unknown.

Long‐Term Salt Exposure Reprograms the Nicotiana tabacum BY‐2 Suspension Proteome and Metabolome Toward Stabilization of the Core Metabolic Pathways, Protein Turnover Machinery Modifications, and Protective Metabolome Adjustments

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we analyzed a unique Nicotiana tabacum BY‐2 line that was gradually adapted to and subsequently maintained in 190 mM NaCl for over 15 years. Years of continuous high salinity shaped a stable “new homeostasis” in BY‐2 suspension cells. Salt‐adapted cells were smaller and formed tighter clusters. Metabolomics revealed constitutive

Revealing Antioxidant Activity of Cellooligosaccharides and Xylooligosaccharides from Banana Leaves, Pseudostem and Guava Seed Cake

open access: yesAppliedChem
Free radicals are molecules generated during some biochemical processes, and in excess, they can cause various diseases; therefore, their production needs to be controlled in humans. One approach to achieving this is through the consumption of substances

MÉTODO DE FOLIN CIOCALTEAU ADAPTADO PARA QUANTIFICAR POLIFENÓIS EM EXTRATOS DE ERVA-MATE: MÉTODO ADAPTADO DE FOLIN CIOCALTEAU

open access: yes, 2020
Yerba mate leaves are traditionally consumed and known by their high concentration of polyphenols. The spectrophotometric method commonly used to analyze Total Polyphenols Content (CFT) is Folin-Ciocalteu, in which a standard curve of gallic acid is used

Comparative analysis of strawberry total phenolics via Fast Blue BB vs. Folin–Ciocalteu: Assay interference by ascorbic acid

open access: yes, 2012
Unblemished fully ripe fruit from five day-neutral strawberry cultivars were harvested on two separate dates and evaluated for ascorbic acid (AsA), fruit sugars, and phenolic composition.

Exploring natural sunscreens: UVB protection and antioxidant properties in gadusol‐rich fish roes extracts

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Gadusol‐rich extracts provide effective UVB protection and antioxidant activity in HaCaT cells and C. elegans, highlighting their potential as natural photochemoprotective agents for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. It also demonstrates remarkable in vitro antioxidant capacity and thermal stability over time.

Unveiling contrasting iron efficiency strategies in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes under iron deficiency

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Common bean genotypes differ in their iron acquisition through distinct Strategy I responses and root exudation patterns. Abstract Iron (Fe) deficiency in food crops, particularly on calcareous soils, limits productivity and human nutrition. This study investigated two common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genotypes, Guaymí (high Fe‐accumulating, HI) and ...

Sclerophyllous structural and chemical traits of mite‐induced galls on Crinodendron patagua (Elaeocarpaceae) leaves

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Eriophyid mites reprogram the structural and biochemical traits of sclerophyllous leaves in Crinodendron patagua, promoting the formation of nutrient‐rich and protective gall tissues. Abstract Sclerophyllous plants present a suite of traits, including small, leathery leaves with thick cuticles, dense trichomes and sclerified tissues, which are often ...
