Spectrophotometric determination of penicillins in pure and pharmaceutical formulations using Folin‐Ciocalteu reagent

Drug Testing and Analysis, 2010
AbstractA new combination of time, temperature, and alkali is described for the spectrophotometric determination of amoxicillin and ampicillin using Folin‐Ciocalteu reagent. The method is based on the development of blue‐coloured product due to the reduction of tungstate and/or molybdate in Folin‐Ciocalteu reagent by amoxicillin and ampicillin in ...

Application of Folin-Ciocalteu reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of some nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents

Journal of Pharmacological Methods, 1988
A simple, sensitive, accurate, and rapid method for the quantitative determination of naproxen, oxyphenbutazone, mefenamic acid, indomethacin, and diclofenac sodium in pharmaceutical preparations is proposed. The method is based on the formation of blue complexes with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent.

Metabisulfite interference in biosensing and Folin-Ciocalteu analysis of polyphenols

Microchimica Acta, 2009
Sodium metabisulfite is one of the forms of sulphurous compounds which are added as preservative in food and beverage processing industries. Its interference with different methods of analysis of polyphenols was investigated in the present work. Studies involved the reaction of metabisulfite at platinum electrodes either at a constant applied potential

Interference by carbohydrate and other substances in the estimation of protein with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent

Analytical Biochemistry, 1969
One of the most sensitive and widely employed assays for protein is the calorimetric p.rocedure developed by Lowry et al. (l), based on the use of the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, the active constituent of which is a phosphomolybdic-tungstic mixed acid (2). Analysis of protein by this means is due originally to Wu (3).

Optimization of Folin-Ciocalteu reagent concentration in an automated Lowry protein assay

Analytical Biochemistry, 1978
Abstract The Lowry method ( G. H. Lowry, N. J. Rosebrough, A. L. Farr, and R. J. Randall, 1951 , J. Biol. Chem. 193 , 265–275) for protein concentration measurement has been automated to permit assay of samples with concentrations from 1 to 400 μg/ml. Calibration with solutions of bovine serum albumin resulted in a nonlinear (quadratic) curve.

Assessment of the Folin and Ciocalteu's Method for Determining Soil Phenolic Carbon

Journal of Environmental Quality, 1998
AbstractPrevious studies have shown that phenolic compounds are potentially allelopathic and present at low concentrations in soil solution. This study was conducted to evaluate the Folin and Ciocalteu's method for determining concentrations of phenolic C in aqueous and citrate extracts of soils containing 7.1 to 57.9 g kg−1 organic C.

Development of an Automated Method for Folin‐Ciocalteu Total Phenolic Assay in Artichoke Extracts

Journal of Food Science, 2012
Abstract:  We developed a system to run the Folin‐Ciocalteu (F‐C) total phenolic assay, in artichoke extract samples, which is fully automatic, consistent, and fast. The system uses 2 high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) pumps, an autosampler, a column heater, a UV/Vis detector, and a data collection ...

REACTIVITY OF VARIOUS COMPOUND CLASSES TOWARDS THE FOLIN-CIOCALTEU REAGENT

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
The Folin‐Ciocalteu assay has been used for over 80 years for the detection and quantitation of phenols. A modification of it, called the Lowry assay, is used for the quantitation of proteins. It has been commonly reported that the Folin‐Ciocalteu reagent, which is a complex mixture containing sodium molybdate and sodium tungstate, is reactive towards ...
