Follicular dynamics during the ovulatory season in goats

Theriogenology, 1994
Growth and regression of ovarian follicles>or=3 mm were studied by transrectal ultrasonography for 4 interovulatory intervals in each of 5 Saanen goats. The observed number of growing identified 4-mm follicles per day differed (Por=6 mm followed a pattern of significant peaks on Days 0 (ovulation), 4,8 and 14.

Factors that affect ovarian follicular dynamics in cattle

Journal of Animal Science, 1992
Studies of ovarian follicular dynamics in cattle may lead to methods for improving fertility, for synchronizing estrus with more precision, and for enhancing superovulatory responses. Within an estrous cycle, two or three large (> 10 mm) follicles develop during consecutive waves of follicular growth.

Follicular dynamics in sheep and cattle

Theriogenology, 1991
Abstract In sheep and cattle, recruitment (i.e. entrance in the acutely gonadotrophin dependent stage), selection (i.e. adjustment of the number of recruited follicles to the number of ovulations) followed by dominance occur at regular intervals whatever the reproductive stage (prepuberal, luteal phase, anoestrus).

Follicular Dynamics, Ovulation and Conception Rates in Bitches

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2009
ContentsReal‐time ultrasound imaging was used in a clinical study to estimate the number of follicles of different sizes, ovulation and conception rates, and to study follicle dynamics following oestrus‐induction of bitches.Follicles were identified during late anoestrus (between 100 and 60 days prior to the pre‐ovulatory LH surge) and there appeared ...

Follicular growth and ovarian dynamics in mammals.

Journal of reproduction and fertility. Supplement, 1997
General characteristics of female reproductive activity, such as seasonality, cyclicity and triggering of ovulation differ widely among mammals, but common mechanisms underlie ovarian function. In all mammals, follicles begin to grow from a pool of primordial follicles constituted early in life, continuously throughout the life of the female ...

Progress in understanding ovarian follicular dynamics in cattle

Theriogenology, 2008
The study of follicular dynamics began in the mid-20th century, but progress has been particularly rapid in the last two decades through the use of tools that have enabled serial, non-invasive examination. A brief overview of early oogenesis and folliculogenesis is provided as a backdrop to the evolution of our understanding of follicular dynamics ...

Ovarian follicular dynamics in Caspian mares

Journal of Equine Veterinary Science, 2002
Abstract The characteristics of the major follicular waves (primary and secondary) throughout estrous cycle were studied in 7 healthy Caspian mares (age, 4-15 years; weight, 198.6 ± 0.9 kg) during the breeding season. Ovarian follicular dynamics were monitored by using an ultrasound scanner equipped with a 5-MHz, B-mode, linear-array, rectal ...

Ovarian follicular dynamics in water buffalo

Theriogenology, 1996
Abstract The pattern of growth and regression of ovarian follicles was characterized during 7 complete estrous cycles in 5 water buffalo by daily ultrasonographic examinations of the ovaries. Follicles ≥ 4 mm were measured and their relative locations within the ovary were determined to follow the sequential development of each individual follicle ...

Dynamics of ovarian follicular fluid in cattle

Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2010
In the present study, ovarian follicular fluid metabolites, ions, enzymes and hormonal profiles in relation to follicular size in Holstein cattles were investigated. Fluid from small (4–5 mm), medium (6–9 mm) and large (10–20 mm) follicles were collected from 80 clinically healthy and non-pregnant adult cattles.

Ovarian follicular dynamics in the llama.

Biology of reproduction, 1991
Ovarian follicular dynamics were determined in adult llamas by ultrasonography and palpation per rectum and hormone analysis (estradiol-17 beta and estrogen conjugates) of plasma and urine. The relationship of gonadotropin secretion to follicular development was determined by the analysis of plasma FSH and LH concentrations.
