Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Exploratory Space-Time Analyses of Rift Valley Fever in South Africa in 2008-2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a zoonotic arbovirosis for which the primary hosts are domestic livestock (cattle, sheep and goats). RVF was first described in South Africa in 1950-1951.

Changes in occupational class differences in leisure-time physical activity: a follow-up study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, 2011
Background Physical activity is known to have health benefits across population groups. However, less is known about changes over time in socioeconomic differences in leisure-time physical activity and the reasons for the changes.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Multi-Messenger Connection in High-Energy Neutrino Astronomy

open access: yesUniverse
Low fluxes of astrophysical neutrinos at TeV energies, and the overwhelming background of atmospheric neutrinos below that, render the current paradigm of neutrino astronomy a severely statistics-limited one.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Time to death and its determinants among cervical cancer patients in Tigray, Ethiopia: a retrospective follow up study

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Ethiopia. However, limited evidence exists regarding the survival outcomes and associated factors among cervical cancer patients, particularly in ...
