Wood-Based Compost Affects Soil Fertility and the Content of Available Forms of Nutrients in Vineyard and Field-Scale Agroecosystems

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
To counteract the loss of organic matter of agricultural soils, the use of compost from green and woody residues is a promising strategy. In this study, an organic farm (NE Italy) was investigated to determine the effect of management practices on ...

ASSIST: Refinement of a Benefits Navigator Intervention Among Low‐Income Pediatric Oncology Families

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Children with cancer living in poverty experience worse survival and quality of life. RNA-seq analyses on gametogenic tissues of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) revealed plant reproduction- and ploidy-related genes

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background In alfalfa (Medicago sativa), the coexistence of interfertile subspecies (i.e. sativa, falcata and coerulea) characterized by different ploidy levels (diploidy and tetraploidy) and the occurrence of meiotic mutants capable of producing ...

Food of oceanic animals [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals and Magazine of Natural History
I FIND on my return home that Dr. Wallich is vexed at my not having given him the credit of having already answered the question which I ventured to put in the ninth number of NATURE, and that he apparently accuses me of inconsistency as regards my estimate of his observations on deep-sea life. I hasten to assure him that my opinion in that respect has

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Pastoralism and agro-ecosystems: a year of hour-by-hour sheep transhumance monitoring

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science
Transhumance is a mobile form of pastoralism consisting of the constant movement of flocks to find access to forage. This practice is linked to both provisioning and non-provisioning ecosystem services, particularly cultural ones.
