All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

Re-visiting of plentiful food sources and food search strategies in desert ants

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2012
North African desert ants, Cataglyphis fortis, are established model organisms in animal navigation research. Cataglyphis re-visit plentiful feeding sites, but their decision to return to a feeder and the organisation of food searches has been little ...

Food deserts? Healthy food access in Amsterdam

open access: yesApplied Geography, 2017
Healthy food environments are imperative for public health. Access to supermarkets that offer wholesome food products at low prices varies across space and over socioeconomic status and ethnic neighborhoods. This research examined food inequalities in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Supermarket accessibility was calculated and linked to property prices and

Injectable Dual‐Network Hydrogel System for Osteochondral Repair Combining Immunomodulation, Mechanical Adaptability, and Enhanced Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A UV‐triggered injectable dual‐network hydrogel is reported as the first application of bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) in osteochondral repair. By integrating methacrylamide‐modified BSP and nitrobenzaldehyde‐functionalized hyaluronic acid, the system achieves immunomodulation, mechanical reinforcement, and dynamic tissue adhesion, thereby ...

Food Desertification: Situating Choice and Class Relations within an Urban Political Economy of Declining Food Access

open access: yesStudies in Social Justice, 2014
While food deserts create whole sets of tangible consequences for people living within them, the problem has yet to be the subject of much normative, in-depth evaluation as an urban political economy of food access.

Novel Functional Materials via 3D Printing by Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective systematically analyzes strategies for incorporating functionalities into 3D‐printed materials via Vat Photopolymerization (VP). It explores the spectrum of achievable functionalities in recently reported novel materials—such as conductive, energy‐storing, biodegradable, stimuli‐responsive, self‐healing, shape‐memory, biomaterials, and

Self‐Powered Permeable Electronic Dressing for Exudate Management, Electrostimulation and Drug Delivery in Chronic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a self‐powered permeable electronic dressing (SPED) that synergistically integrates exudate management, electrical stimulation, and on‐demand drug delivery. The dressing effectively absorbs exudate while demonstrating potent antibacterial activity and accelerated tissue regeneration in diabetic mouse models, thereby promoting ...
