Food waste quantities and composition in Polish households

Waste Management & Research: The Journal for a Sustainable Circular Economy, 2023
Over one-third of the produced food is wasted globally. Most food is wasted at the consumer stage. The use of waste sorting analysis is considered to deliver more precise and less biased results than self-reporting methodologies. Currently, no detailed studies on the amounts and composition of household food waste are available for Poland.

Effects of compositions on food waste composting

Bioresource Technology, 2008
The objective of this work was to provide a method of predicting important parameters (composting time, highest temperature, final and lowest pH values, cumulative CO2 evolution, and percentages of material losses) that characterized the composting process of synthetic food waste in terms of weight fractions of protein and fat.

Chemical composition and methane potential of commercial food wastes

Waste Management, 2016
There is increasing interest in anaerobic digestion in the U.S. However, there is little information on the characterization of commercial food waste sources as well as the effect of waste particle size on methane yield. The objective of this research was to characterize four commercial food waste sources: (1) university dining hall waste, (2) waste ...

Discussion on the methodology for determining food waste in household waste composition studies

Waste Management, 2011
Food waste has become an increasingly discussed topic in recent years. However, there is little authoritative data on food waste quantities and composition and systematic and comparable data are missing. Household waste composition analyses, which are often carried out routinely at regular or irregular intervals, provide an opportunity for obtaining ...

Food waste volume and composition in Finnish households

British Food Journal, 2014
Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to determine the volume and quality of food waste in Finnish households and discuss drivers for waste being produced.Design/methodology/approach– In total, 380 households weighed all solid food waste and liquid milk waste daily each time they disposed food during a two-week period.

Review of household food waste quantification methods: Focus on composition analysis

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2021
Abstract Food loss and waste has become an increasingly discussed topic in recent years due to the associated economic and environmental burden. Knowledge and methodological gaps in quantifying food waste generation have been identified as the major obstacles in addressing the food waste generation issues by several researchers.

Understanding the Composition of Food Waste

2019
Due to existing application gap, the diverse microorganisms and their processes in food waste have not been maximally explored or harnessed. This chapter addresses the possible application of “-omics” technologies to understand food waste microbial composition and metabolic processes, to stimulate future research in mining food waste for important ...

Utilization of Food Waste as Materials for Composite Plastic Tile

2019 IEEE 11th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment, and Management ( HNICEM ), 2019
Nature has a lot to offer to people. Source of food and income are just few. Waste from natural sources of food is abundant in coastal areas where the source of living is fishing. The study is focused on utilizing food waste from Cerastoderma edule commonly known in the Philippines as Litob and river sand as additives in making recycled (high density ...

Edible food waste from Norwegian households—Detailed food waste composition analysis among households in two different regions in Norway

Resources, Conservation and Recycling, 2016
Abstract The main purpose of the study was to get detailed data on amounts and composition of edible food waste from Norwegian households, based on detailed waste composition analyses from two municipalities/regions in Norway. The importance of age, number of persons and residence type of each household for the amount of waste was studied ...
