Resource omnivory in soil food webs and meta-ecosystem connections

open access: yesBasic and Applied Ecology
Soil food webs were long considered an ecosystem sink for primary production and a black box of reticulated interactions. Quantification of multiple and changing interactions among consumers and resources within and beyond soil food webs stands up as a ...

Drought rewires the cores of food webs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Droughts are intensifying across the globe, with potentially devastating implications for freshwater ecosystems. We used new network science approaches to investigate drought impacts on stream food webs and explored potential consequences for web ...

Light‐Responsive Enzyme‐Loaded Nanoparticles for Tunable Adhesion and Mechanical Wound Contraction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a photoactivatable enzyme‐loaded mesoporous nanoparticle system (MPDA_PaTy) that enables light‐triggered tunable tissue adhesion and facilitates mechanical wound contraction. Controlled enzymatic crosslinking at tissue or hydrogel interfaces allows on‐demand adhesion.

Warming and resource enhancement shape food webs in South China Sea coral reef system

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Coral reef ecosystems are being altered by rising ocean temperatures and increasing nutrient inputs, yet their combined influence on food-web structure is not well understood.

Programmable DNA‐Peptide Hybrid Nanostructures for Potent Neutralization of Multiple Influenza a Virus Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent antiviral platform based on honeycomb‐shaped DNA nanostructures (HC–Urumin) is developed to enhance the potency and breadth of the host defense peptide Urumin. Through spatially patterned trimeric presentation, HC–Urumin disrupts influenza A virus entry, improves cell viability, and reduces disease severity in vivo‐offering a modular and ...

4D Mapping of ZIF Biocomposites for High Protein Loading and Tunable Release Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Systematic four‐dimensional mapping of zeolitic imidazolate framework biocomposites reveals how precursor ratios, total concentration, and washing define crystalline phase, protein loading, and release kinetics. This comprehensive study identifies conditions yielding record loading (∼85%) and precise phase–property correlations.

Species' traits and food‐web complexity interactively affect a food web's response to press disturbance

open access: yesEcosphere, 2016
Given current levels of biodiversity loss and environmental change, studies of how food webs respond to disturbance should broaden their focus beyond short‐term disturbances to explore the effects of long‐term, “press” disturbances.
