Towards a development approach to displacement

open access: yesForced Migration Review, 2017
To better respond to displacement, we need to adopt a medium- to long-term perspective rooted in development as well as humanitarian principles.

Uma análise aos fluxos migratórios e dinâmicas do deslocamento forçado na Colômbia para o período 2000-2007

open access: yesConfins, 2017
One of the main consequences generated by the armed conflict in Colombia is the internal displacement. Analyze the social impacts of a conflict that has persisted for over fifty years is especially relevant because it directly affects the civilian ...

Climate Change and Forced Displacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This note, written at the request of former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed, calls on policy-makers to initiate a more concerted dialogue on how to prepare for and respond to displacement and migration caused by climate ...

Direct conversion of rheological compliance measurements into storage and loss moduli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We remove the need for Laplace/inverse-Laplace transformations of experimental data, by presenting a direct and straightforward mathematical procedure for obtaining frequency-dependent storage and loss moduli ($G'(\omega)$ and $G"(\omega)$ respectively),

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Intrinsic noise of a micro-mechanical displacement detector based on the radio-frequency single-electron transistor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We investigate the intrinsic noise of a micro-mechanical displacement detector based on the radio-frequency single-electron transistor (rf-SET). Using the noise analysis of a SET by Korotkov as our starting point, we determine the spectral density of the displacement noise due to the tunneling current shot noise.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

The displacement and annihilation of macroscopic regions with hypervortices in ceramic YBa2Cu3O7-x [PDF]

open access: yesLow Temperature Physics 36 (2010) 110-114, 2013
Features of the controllable displacement, annihilation, and transformation of macroscopic regions of a weak frozen magnetic field (FMF) have been experimentally studied in a plate of granulated ceramic YBa2Cu3O7-x under the action of the transport current flowing through it. It is shown that the displacement of regions with an FMF lower than the first

Measuring Poverty in Forced Displacement Contexts

open access: yes, 2023
Poverty measurement among forcibly displaced populations, including refugees and internally displaced persons, has been, for long, neglected by the economics profession and by poverty specialists working across the social sciences. This has changed since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011 and the peak of the European migration crisis in 2015.
