Formulated Diets versus Seed Mixtures for Psittacines
The Journal of Nutrition, 1991Psittacines are often classified as seed eaters despite studies that have established great diversity in food habits in the wild. While seeds are consumed, so are flowers, buds, leaves, fruits and cambium. Some psittacines consume part of greater than 80 species of grasses, forbs, shrubs and trees. Optimal Beef Cattle Diets Formulated by Nonlinear Programming
Journal of Animal Science, 1988A beef diet model based on National Research Council recommendations is significantly nonlinear for feed ingredients, daily gain and weight of cattle. Solving a diet model has been difficult, but advances in nonlinear programming now allow solutions that are quick and easy.

Interactive formulation system for cattle diets
Agricultural Systems, 1982Abstract A system of feed formulation for lactating cows and growing cattle based on nutrient requirements proposed by the Agricultural Research Council (1980) is described. It is directed towards remote interactive use by extension staff and produces diets on a least cost basis using linear programming (LP). It can also be used for the evaluation of

Computer diet formulation and feed evaluation
Outlook on Agriculture, 1985As the cost of feed is usually the most significant factor in the economics of raising livestock the formulation of cost-effective diets is correspondingly important. As this formulation involves correlating a number of variables it is not necessarily achieved by traditional methods based on experience. This article reviews recent progress in applying

Computer‐aided formulation of experimental diets
Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, 1991A computer program has been designed to test‐out random combinations of different numbers of food portions against set target quantities of nutrients required in experimental diets. The most acceptahle combination is selected and refined by random adjustments of the weight of each food component until a meal nutritionally closer to that required is ...
