Trace ions rejection tunning in NF by selecting solution composition: Ion permeances estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nanofiltration (NF) is suggested to selectively remove ionic species in aqueous process streams taking benefit of both membrane and aqueous solution composition. The importance of predicting and optimizing selective ion rejections by NF not only of major

Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Permeate quality, advanced oxidation process treatability, and cost for two concentrate treatment technologies to enhance recovery for potable reuse

open access: yesJournal of Water Reuse and Desalination, 2023
Closed circuit reverse osmosis (CCRO) and forward osmosis-RO (FO-RO) were evaluated at a pilot scale to generate additional permeate from RO concentrate – achieving a recovery of 61% for CCRO and 35% for FO-RO – at a full-scale advanced water ...

Controlled Movement of Soft Actuators using Multi‐Responsive Microgel Arrays and Microcirculatory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale hydrogels (microgels) feature improved mass transport characteristics supportive of fast actuation and chemical tunability amenable to programmed stimuli response. A unique soft actuator architecture is realized by encapsulating microgels in soft microcirculatory systems which enable the convenient delivery of liquid stimuli for powering and

Going big with forward osmosis [PDF]

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment, 2016
AbstractThe frontier of water treatment technologies is being defined by hybrid processes and thoughtful design integration within treatment trains. The use of increasingly sophisticated process trains is driven by the need to treat dramatically impaired water supplies while maintaining low cost, high utilization, and high operational flexibility ...

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

Simulation on the effect of temperature on forward osmosis process across membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Forward Osmosis(FO)is one of the technologies that show a great performance in energy production and water supply. Forward osmosis is more preferred in both productions especially water supply because the purity of the water produce by forward osmosis ...
