Synthesis and Evaluation of Antioxidant and Potential Prebiotic Activities of Acetylated and Butyrylated Fructo-Oligosaccharides

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) have well-known bifidogenic effects as probiotics. In this study, esterification was adopted for FOS modification to produce better prebiotic properties.

c‐Fos transrepression revisited [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1997
The c‐fos proto‐oncogene was discovered by homology to transforming viral genes, leading to speculation that transforming viruses had captured a cellular gene involved in cell cycle control. Indeed overexpression of c‐Fos protein led to deregulated growth control, and c‐Fos was thought to be so critically involved in cell cycle control that ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Short-term supplementation with dietary fructooligosaccharide and dietary mannitol elevated the absorption of calcium and magnesium in adult rats

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2016
The effects of dietary fructooligosaccharide (FOS) and dietary mannitol on the absorption of Ca and Mg in a short term feeding trial were studied. Adult Wistar rats were divided into three groups and fed diets containing 0, 8% FOS or 8% mannitol for ...

ΔFosB Regulates Gene Expression and Cognitive Dysfunction in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer\u27s Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Alzheimer\u27s disease (AD) is characterized by cognitive decline and 5- to 10-fold increased seizure incidence. How seizures contribute to cognitive decline in AD or other disorders is unclear.

Physical Conditions in the Inner Narrow-Line Region of the Seyfert 2 Galaxy NGC 1068 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The physical conditions in the inner narrow line region (NLR) of the Seyfert 2 galaxy, NGC 1068, are examined using ultraviolet and optical spectra and photoionization models.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

The influence of the expanded Global Gag Rule on Malawi’s sexual and reproductive health and rights landscape: a qualitative study

open access: yesBMJ Global Health
Introduction The Global Gag Rule (GGR) prohibits non-governmental organisations receiving US international family planning funding from using these funds to provide or refer for abortion services or advocate for abortion law liberalisation.
