Photosynthesis regulation impacts carbon and nitrogen assimilation in the diazotrophic cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. PCC 7120

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 94-110, July 2026.
Model of intercellular functional coordination in Anabaena. Summary Diazotrophic cyanobacteria fix both atmospheric carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) into biomass, but the two assimilation pathways are not compatible. Species like Anabaena sp. PCC 7120 physically separate C and N assimilation in different cell types.

Unidad didáctica: la fotosíntesis. De materia inorgánica a alimento [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021

How do drought and elevated temperatures influence CO2 fertilization effects on tree seedling performance? A global meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 10, Page 2875-2888, October 2025.
These results suggest that the fertilization effect of CO2 at the seedling stage may be limited when additional environmental stressors, such as drought, are present. The combined effect of drought, temperature and CO2 mainly resulted in additive effects, where each stressor independently influences plant performance rather than interacting to amplify ...

Plants maximise chloride uptake during early vegetative development to stimulate cell expansion, maturation of the photosynthetic apparatus, and growth

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 5, September 2025.
SUMMARY Despite being an essential micronutrient and its recent classification as a beneficial macronutrient, chloride (Cl−) has traditionally been considered of limited agricultural relevance and a potentially toxic saline ion. This study provides the first comprehensive demonstration of the quantitative and qualitative importance of Cl− during early ...

La fotosíntesis

open access: yes, 2021
La fotosíntesis es un proceso anabólico que realizan las células vegetales que tienen cloroplastos. Las células vegetales verdes toman agua y dióxido de carbono y, gracias a la energía luminosa, forman materia orgánica y oxígeno, su composición química ...

Characterization of TrxC, an Atypical Thioredoxin Exclusively Present in Cyanobacteria

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2018
Cyanobacteria form a diverse group of oxygenic photosynthetic prokaryotes considered to be the antecessor of plant chloroplast. They contain four different thioredoxins isoforms, three of them corresponding to m, x and y type present in plant chloroplast,

Metabolic traits and thresholds to inform marine ecological conservation and restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 6, Page 1350-1363, June 2025.
Integrating organismal responses to environmental stressors into monitoring protocols can provide early warning indicators of ecosystem health. This approach strengthens conservation and restoration initiatives, supporting policy decisions in the face of increasing coastal development and climate change.
