Symmetries of photorefractive four-wave mixing

Physical Review A, 1992
A symmetry analysis of degenerate four-wave-mixing equations in photorefractive crystals is carried out. Using underlying SU symmetries, a systematic derivation of conserved quantities is performed, and a method of integration of the equations is introduced.

Four-Wave Frequency Mixing in Gases

1987
Four wave frequency mixing in gases is now understood in a quantitative manner and has been used for the design of coherent infrared as well as vacuum uv sources. A brief review of the fundamental processes is given. The vacuum uv sources have already extended laser spectroscopy into the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region below 200 nm. Several examples

Instabilities In Four-Wave Mixing

SPIE Proceedings, 1986
Recent research on instabilites in the four-wave mixing process is summarized. The four-wave mixing process can cause a laser beam to become unstable to the growth of new frequency components as the beam propagates through a nonlinear medium. Similar instabilities can occur in more complicated optical systems such as lasers and bistable optical devices.

Four-Wave Mixing in Metamaterials

Russian Physics Journal, 2018
Interaction of four counterpropagating waves in a cubic medium being “left” for the signal wave is considered in the constant-intensity approximation. Analytical expression for the signal wave intensity is derived for the general case of four-wave interaction in a metamaterial.

OPC in Four-Wave Mixing

1985
OPC in four-wave mixing (FWM) has been realized for various third-order optical nonlinearities. Irrespective of the type of third-order nonlinearity of a medium, a phenomenological study of the generation of a phase-conjugated wave in FWM is carried out in much the same way.

Solitons in Four-Wave Mixing

International Meeting on Instabilities and Dynamics of Lasers and Nonlinear Optical Systems, 1985
We have extended the work of Kai Druhl, Bob Wenzel and John Carlsten1 on solitons in stimulated Raman scattering to include four-wave mixing phenomena. We have studied coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and second Stokes generation (SSG). We have found that CARS exhibits a soliton-like structure, whereas SSG exhibits a real soliton.

Four-wave mixing in EDFAs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
We study FWM in C- and L-band EDFAs. We observe that FWM efficiency is determined by fiber length and channel spacing. We show that FWM from EDFAs exceeds that from non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber in DWDM system.

Three and Four Wave Mixing

1990
One characteristic of nonlinear processes in quantum optics is the occurrence of products of interaction energies with complex conjugates of these energies, e.g., in the third-order product VV*V. This is built into the concept of the rotating-wave approximation, whether taken classically or quantum mechanically.

Theory of four-wave mixing

1999
The present chapter is devoted to presenting the theory of four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). At first, a model describing the dynamics in terms of rate equations is developed. The rate equations are derived from density matrix equations, and after coupling with the propagation equation for the field envelope and its phase, a ...
