Four-wave mixing in microstructure fiber
Optics Letters, 2001We report what we believe to be the first experimental demonstration of nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a microstructure fiber. The effect of the chi((3)) nonlinearity is enhanced in such a fiber because of the small core area, and we achieve phase matching by operating near the zero-dispersion wavelength (?750 nm) . We have observed parametric gains

Four-Wave Frequency Mixing in Gases
1987Four wave frequency mixing in gases is now understood in a quantitative manner and has been used for the design of coherent infrared as well as vacuum uv sources. A brief review of the fundamental processes is given. The vacuum uv sources have already extended laser spectroscopy into the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region below 200 nm. Several examples

Forward four-wave mixing with defocusing nonlinearity
Optics Letters, 2007We experimentally demonstrate degenerate, forward four-wave mixing effects in a self-defocusing photorefractive medium, in both one and two transverse dimensions. We observe the nonlinear evolution of new modes as a function of propagation distance, in both the near-field and far-field (Fourier space) regions.

Four-Wave Mixing in Metamaterials
Russian Physics Journal, 2018Interaction of four counterpropagating waves in a cubic medium being “left” for the signal wave is considered in the constant-intensity approximation. Analytical expression for the signal wave intensity is derived for the general case of four-wave interaction in a metamaterial.

Instabilities In Four-Wave Mixing
SPIE Proceedings, 1986Recent research on instabilites in the four-wave mixing process is summarized. The four-wave mixing process can cause a laser beam to become unstable to the growth of new frequency components as the beam propagates through a nonlinear medium. Similar instabilities can occur in more complicated optical systems such as lasers and bistable optical devices.

We study FWM in C- and L-band EDFAs. We observe that FWM efficiency is determined by fiber length and channel spacing. We show that FWM from EDFAs exceeds that from non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber in DWDM system.

One characteristic of nonlinear processes in quantum optics is the occurrence of products of interaction energies with complex conjugates of these energies, e.g., in the third-order product VV*V. This is built into the concept of the rotating-wave approximation, whether taken classically or quantum mechanically.

The present chapter is devoted to presenting the theory of four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). At first, a model describing the dynamics in terms of rate equations is developed. The rate equations are derived from density matrix equations, and after coupling with the propagation equation for the field envelope and its phase, a ...

OPC in four-wave mixing (FWM) has been realized for various third-order optical nonlinearities. Irrespective of the type of third-order nonlinearity of a medium, a phenomenological study of the generation of a phase-conjugated wave in FWM is carried out in much the same way.
