Four-wave mixing in traveling-wave semiconductor amplifiers

The traveling-wave equations of four-wave mixing in semiconductor amplifiers are solved analytically including saturation of the amplifier. Excellent agreement is obtained with numerical solutions of the traveling-wave equations. The analytical model is used to analyze a highly nondegenerate four-wave mixing experiment in a bulk semiconductor amplifier.

Forward four-wave mixing with defocusing nonlinearity

We experimentally demonstrate degenerate, forward four-wave mixing effects in a self-defocusing photorefractive medium, in both one and two transverse dimensions. We observe the nonlinear evolution of new modes as a function of propagation distance, in both the near-field and far-field (Fourier space) regions.

Degenerate four-wave mixing in plasmas

We report an analysis of degenerate four-wave mixing in uniform plasmas and show that the magnitude of the third-order susceptibility (varying as lambda(2)) can be comparable to (10(-11) esu for lambda = 10.6 microm) or orders of magnitude larger (10(-3) esu for lambda= 10 cm) than the corresponding susceptibility in typical nonlinear materials.

Polariton effects in four-wave mixing

We show that polariton effects lead to time-delayed components in the time-resolved four-wave-mixing (FWM) signal. Hence we find that recent observations in FWM experiments that have been ascribed to many-body Coulomb interactions can also be explained from the formation of exciton polaritons.
