Foxtail Millet: A New Model for C4 Plants
Trends in Plant Science, 2021Arabidopsis and rice are major models for C3 plants, but we still lack a model for C4 plants. Recently, Yang and coworkers developed foxtail millet as a C4 plant model; with the rapid development of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas technology, this will open a new era for plant functional studies and crop ...

Millets comprise group of crops which can play a major role in achieving the goal of nutritional security through diversification of diets in spite that these are generally grown in marginal and infertile lands. Compared to major cereals, millets provide carbohydrates, protein, minerals, dietary fibre, vitamins and various functional molecules to the ...

Foxtail Millet: An Introduction
2017Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) is a versatile crop known for being genetically closely related to biofuel grasses, for its C4 photosynthesis, and for its tolerance to abiotic stresses. These attributes have made this crop a model system and, in view of this, the genome of foxtail millet has been sequenced. Among millets, foxtail millet is the only

Breeding Strategies in Foxtail Millet
2017Foxtail millet is a highly self-pollinated crop, and the small delicate flowers make hybridization and crossing difficult. Progress in crop improvement of foxtail millet has been achieved chiefly through pedigree selection in many parts of the globe. China has been pioneering in developing male sterile lines and yield gains through heterosis. Many male

Registration of ‘Canggu 5’ Foxtail Millet
Journal of Plant Registrations, 2016Summer foxtail millet [Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.] is widely grown in the northern part of China, especially in Hebei Province, where it accounts for one‐fourth of the country's producing areas. A winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)–summer foxtail millet–winter wheat rotation is a typical practice, so early maturity of foxtail millet is critical in ...

SACCHARIDES IN PROSO AND FOXTAIL MILLETS
Journal of Food Science, 1978ABSTRACT The saccharide composition of 8 samples of proso and foxtail millets was determined. Sucrose was the major saccharide followed by raffinose. Glucose, fructose, and galactose were present only in trace amounts. Myo‐inositol was found in small amounts in some of the samples. Maltose and maltotriose were not detected.

Foxtail Millet Breeding in China
2016Although there is a long history of foxtail millet cultivation in China, modern foxtail millet breeding was only initiated in China in the 1950s and 1960s, with significant progress being made since the 1980s. Most of the research on foxtail millet breeding has been conducted in China, where it is an important regional cereal.

STABILITY OF YIELD IN FOXTAIL MILLET
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1990Variety x environmental components was highly significant indicating differential response of varieties over environments in foxtall millets. Stability analysis indicated SIA-9, Arjun and Co 5 had better adaptation to unfavourable environment while SLA 2566 and SLA 326 had high performance and adapted to favourable conditions.

A novel antifungal peptide from foxtail millet seeds
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2011AbstractBACKGROUND: Antifungal proteins (AFP) help plants to combat phytopathogenic fungi and thus protect plants from the devastating damage caused by fungal infections and prevent massive economic losses. To date, several proteins with antibacterial and/or antifungal properties have been isolated and characterized from different plant species and ...

Cultivating Proso/Foxtail Millet
2019When the frost disappears, early-sowing proso/foxtail millet should be sown in the first week of the third month. Late-sowing proso/foxtail millet should be sown between the second week of the third month and the first week of the fourth month, select fields mixed with half fine sand and half black dirt.
