Phytoliths in Chinese foxtail millet (Setaria italica)
Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology, 2015Abstract Increasingly, archeologists are realizing that early agriculturalists manipulated suites of plant species as they contended with environmental instability and cultural performance. Studying these complex interactions requires robust diagnostic indicators for each species. This has been particularly difficult for millet macrobotanical remains

Why no tetraploid cultivar of foxtail millet?
Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 2004Autotetraploid material was induced by colchicine treatment of a pure line of foxtail millet and an interspecific hybrid between foxtail millet and giant green foxtail. Compared with diploid material, tetraploids were smaller, flowered later, and had a two-fold reduced fertility (number of grain per cm of spike).

Origin and Domestication of Foxtail Millet
2016Among the more than 100 species in Setaria, S. macrostachya, S. pumila, and foxtail millet (S. italica) cereals were domesticated by human beings. However, only foxtail millet became a worldwide crop, contributing greatly to the development of Chinese civilization and remaining as a staple cereal in arid and semi-arid regions.

Foxtail Millet [Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.]
1988Setaria is a tropical to temperate genus of the family Gramineae. S. italica (L.) Beauv., with common English name foxtail millet, is one of the few economically important species of Setaria, and also one of the principle millets. It is an annual grass, with linear leaves, erect shoots of several tens of centimeters to one meter in height, and spike ...

Microwave Assisted De-husking of Foxtail Millet
Journal of Agricultural Engineering (India), 2018A study was conducted to determine the effect of microwave pre-treatment on de-husking characteristics and quality parameters of foxtail millet. Foxtail millet was treated at three microwave power levels (900 W, 720 W and 540 W) for three different exposure time (120 s, 100 s and 80 s).

Cryopreservation of Foxtail Millet (Setaria italica L.)
1995There are about 125 species of Setaria (Gramineae), but only few of them are important for food production. One of the most important species, foxtail millet (Setaria italica L., chromosome number: 2n = 18), is cultivated in both the old and New World for hay, pasture, and as a cereal.

Genetic Structure of Foxtail Millet Landraces
2017Studies on the genetic structure of foxtail millet landraces are reviewed. Several genetic works based on intraspecific hybrid pollen semi-sterility, isozymes, ribosomal DNA (rDNA) RFLP, nuclear RFLP, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) RFLP, RAPD, AFLP, transposon display (TD) markers, and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were carried out to investigate ...
