Fractional-order elements of complement order

open access: yes, 2020
The design of analogue fractional-order systems requires the presence of fractional-order elements (FOEs), capacitive and/or inductive, featuring fractional order α (0 < α < 1). As currently FOEs are not available as discrete elements, suitable RC networks are used to overcome this obstacle.

Synthesis of fractional-order elements using the RC-EDP approach

open access: yes2017 European Conference on Circuit Theory and Design (ECCTD), 2017
Using the theory of analyzing the properties of RC-EDP (resistive-capacitive elements with distributed parameters) structures we propose the synthesis of elements with fractional impedance (EFI)-fractional capacitors Cα (0 < α < 1) suitable for analogue function block design.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

A Mixed Finite Element Formulation for the Conservative Fractional Diffusion Equations

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2016
We consider a boundary-value problem of one-side conservative elliptic equation involving Riemann-Liouville fractional integral. The appearance of the singular term in the solution leads to lower regularity of the solution of the equation, so to the ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

LDG schemes with second order implicit time discretization for a fractional sub-diffusion equation

open access: yesResults in Applied Mathematics, 2019
In this paper, we propose new local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) schemes for solving a time fractional sub-diffusion equation. The new LDG schemes is constructed rely on the splitting of time fractional derivative and space derivative.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
