Anyon Black Holes

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a correspondence between an Anyon Van der Waals fluid and a (2+1) dimensional AdS black hole. Anyons are particles with intermediate statistics that interpolates between a Fermi-Dirac statistics and a Bose-Einstein one.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Introduction to multifractional spacetimes

open access: yes, 2012
We informally review the construction of spacetime geometries with multifractal and, more generally, multiscale properties. Based on fractional calculus, these continuous spacetimes have their dimension changing with the scale; they display discrete ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Solar resource classification in South Africa using a new index

open access: yesJournal of Energy in Southern Africa, 2017
This paper introduces a solar resource index that responds to site-specific sky conditions resulting from stochastic movement and evolution of clouds. The developed solar resource classification index called probability of persistence (POPD) had limited ...

Time-space fabric underlying anomalous diffusion

open access: yes, 2005
This study unveils the time-space transforms underlying anomalous diffusion process. Based on this finding, we present the two hypotheses concerning the effect of fractal time-space fabric on physical behaviors and accordingly derive fractional quantum ...

Holographic formula for the determinant of the scattering operator in thermal AdS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A 'holographic formula' expressing the functional determinant of the scattering operator in an asymptotically locally anti-de Sitter(ALAdS) space has been proposed in terms of a relative functional determinant of the scalar Laplacian in the bulk.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Quantum mechanics and quantum Hall effect on Riemann surfaces

open access: yes, 1993
The quantum mechanics of a system of charged particles interacting with a magnetic field on Riemann surfaces is studied. We explicitly construct the wave functions of ground states in the case of a metric proportional to the Chern form of the $\theta ...

The Geometry of Black Hole singularities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Recent results show that important singularities in General Relativity can be naturally described in terms of finite and invariant canonical geometric objects. Consequently, one can write field equations which are equivalent to Einstein's at non-singular
