Fractional Moments on Bandit Problems

open access: yes, 2012
Reinforcement learning addresses the dilemma between exploration to find profitable actions and exploitation to act according to the best observations already made. Bandit problems are one such class of problems in stateless environments that represent this explore/exploit situation.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The Lognormal Distribution Is Characterized by Its Integer Moments

open access: yesMathematics
The lognormal moment sequence is considered. Using the fractional moments technique, it is first proved that the lognormal has the largest differential entropy among the infinite positively supported probability densities with the same lognormal-moments.

Anderson localization for a class of models with a sign-indefinite single-site potential via fractional moment method

open access: yes, 2011
A technically convenient signature of Anderson localization is exponential decay of the fractional moments of the Green function within appropriate energy ranges.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Construction of a symmetrical shifl-invariant fractional overcomplete wavelet and its application in bearing fault diagnosis

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2015
This article introduces the design of symmetrical approximately shift-invariant fractional overcomplete wavelet transforms. First, a design scheme for the symmetrical low-pass filter with minimum-length was proposed, and then the corresponding highpass ...

Biomedical Multimedia Encryption by Fractional-Order Meixner Polynomials Map and Quaternion Fractional-Order Meixner Moments

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Chaotic systems are widely used in signal and image encryption schemes. Therefore, the design of new chaotic systems is always useful for improving the performance of encryption schemes in terms of security. In this work, we first demonstrate the chaotic

Generalized Widder Theorem via fractional moments

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 2009
We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the representability of a function as the classical multidimensional Laplace transform, when the support of the representing measure is contained in some generalized semi-algebraic set. This is done by employing a method of Putinar and Vasilescu [Putinar, M.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
