Computer simulation of fatigue under diametrical compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study the fatigue fracture of disordered materials by means of computer simulations of a discrete element model. We extend a two-dimensional fracture model to capture the microscopic mechanisms relevant for fatigue, and we simulate the diametric compression of a disc shape specimen under a constant external force.

Osteoimmunology of Fracture Healing. [PDF]

open access: yesCurr Osteoporos Rep
Abstract Purpose of Review The purpose of this review is to summarize what is known in the literature about the role inflammation plays during bone fracture healing. Bone fracture healing progresses through four distinct yet overlapping phases: formation of the hematoma, development of the cartilaginous callus ...

Mesenchymal Stem Cell‐Derived Exosomes Promote Fracture Healing in a Mouse Model

open access: yesStem Cells Translational Medicine, 2016
Paracrine signaling by bone‐marrow‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) plays a major role in tissue repair. Although the production of regulatory cytokines by MSC transplantation is a critical modulator of tissue regeneration, we focused on exosomes ...

The effect of favipiravir on fracture healing. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Orthop Traumatol Turc
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of favipiravir on fracture healing. Forty-eight female rats which had a femur fracture with intramedullary Kirschner wire fixation performed were divided into 6 groups; 2 control groups (C1, C2) and 4 experimental groups (F1, F2, F3, F4). The control groups (C1, C2) received physiological saline by oral

The Science of Fracture Healing

open access: bronzeJournal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2005
Fracture healing is a unique repair process in which the events of endochondral and intramembranous bone formation follow a specific time sequence. There are many ways in which these events can be disrupted, leading to unsuccessful fracture healing. This article summarizes the series of cellular and molecular events that take place in the process of ...

A micromechanical fracture analysis to investigate the effect of healing particles on the overall mechanical response of a self-healing particulate composite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A computational fracture analysis is conducted on a self‐healing particulate composite employing a finite element model of an actual microstructure. The key objective is to quantify the effects of the actual morphology and the fracture properties of the ...

The biology of fracture healing. [PDF]

open access: yesInjury, 2011
The biology of fracture healing is a complex biological process that follows specific regenerative patterns and involves changes in the expression of several thousand genes. Although there is still much to be learned to fully comprehend the pathways of bone regeneration, the over-all pathways of both the anatomical and biochemical events have been ...

A timeseries analysis of the fracture callus extracellular matrix proteome during bone fracture healing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
While most bones fully self-heal, certain diseases require bone allograft to assist with fracture healing. Bone allografts offer promise as treatments for such fractures due to their osteogenic properties.

Impact of Janus Kinase Inhibition with Tofacitinib on Fundamental Processes of Bone Healing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Both inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and anti-inflammatory treatment of RA with glucocorticoids (GCs) or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) negatively influence bone metabolism and fracture healing.

Scope and Limits of Teriparatide Use in Delayed and Nonunions: A Case Series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Nonunion is known to occur in up to 10% of all bone fractures. Until recently, the treatment options considered in cases of delayed union and nonunion focused on revision surgery and improvement of local healing.
