Mechanical Behaviors of Si/CNT Core/Shell Nanocomposites under Tension: A Molecular Dynamics Analysis

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
The silicon/carbon nanotube (core/shell) nanocomposite electrode model is one of the most promising solutions to the problem of electrode pulverization in lithium-ion batteries.

Improving the cycle fatigue life of spring steel by a novel thermal cycling process

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2021
A novel thermal cycling process was applied on the 65Mn spring to improve the cycle fatigue life. Results demonstrate that the cycle fatigue life after the thermal cycling process was improved from 3 times to 14 times, with an improvement of 470%.

Design of fixed blast valve for gas extraction grouting sealing device

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2021
Taking practice of gas extraction and sealing hole grouting in coal mine as background, a new type of blast valve was developed in view of the current situation that the existing blast valves can not meet the requirements of new grouting sealing device.

FATIGUE FAILURE OF NICKEL-TITANIUM INSTRUMENTS IN ENDODONTICS AND ITS INFLUENCING FACTORS

open access: yesČeská Stomatologie a Praktické Zubní Lékařství, 2022
Introduction and aim: The fracture of Ni-Ti instruments is a complication that most dentists will sooner or later encounter in the dental office. There are mainly two basic mechanisms behind it and these are exceeding the cyclic fatigue limit, exceeding ...

FRACTURE MECHANICS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1961
1. Linear fractures of the shaft of the long bones are divided into four basic types: 1) transverse; 2) oblique transverse; 3) spiral; and 4) oblique. 2. The mode of production of these fractures is deduced on the grounds of simple mechanical theory: 1) transverse fractures are a result of angulation; 2) oblique transyerse are the result of ...

Self-replicating cracks: a collaborative fracture mode in thin films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Straight cracks are observed in thin coatings under residual tensile stress, resulting into the classical network pattern observed in china crockery, old paintings or dry mud. Here, we present a novel fracture mechanism where delamination and propagation

Role of disordered bipolar complexions on the sulfur embrittlement of nickel general grain boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Minor impurities can cause catastrophic fracture of normally ductile metals. Here, a classic example is represented by the sulfur embrittlement of nickel, whose atomic-level mechanism has puzzled researchers for nearly a century.

Fracture mechanics principles

open access: yesDental Materials, 1995
The principles of linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) were developed in the 1950s by George Irwin (1957). This work was based on previous investigations of Griffith (1920) and Orowan (1944). Irwin (1957) demonstrated that a crack shape in a particular location with respect to the loading geometry had a stress intensity associated with it.

Vibration Fatigue Properties and Fracture Mechanism of DD6 Single Crystal Superalloy

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2018
Room Temperature vibration fatigue S-N curves of single crystal superalloy DD6 with[001] orientation was investigated and room temperature vibration fatigue limit was obtained. The fracture mechanism was studied by OM, SEM and EBSD. The results show that

In situ study of fracture behavior of ultrafine WC–Co cemented carbide

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2017
The fracture behavior of ultrafine WC–Co cemented carbide was demonstrated by in situ tensile tests in a transmission electron microscope. Using two kinds of cemented carbide samples with and without previously introduced microcracks, the process from ...
