FRACTURE RESISTANCE ANALYSIS OF PEEK-POLYMER

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2017
PEEK is a thermoplastic polymer with halfcrystallic structure – the scientific name of this material is poly(oxy- 1,4-phenylene-oxy-1,4-phenylenecarbonyl-1,4-phenylene). It has a high melt and glass transition temperatures (Tm = 340 oC, Tg = 143 oC), high chemical resistance and is melt processable.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Mechanical performance of glass-based geopolymer matrix composites reinforced with cellulose fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Glass-based geopolymers, incorporating fly ash and borosilicate glass, were processed in conditions of high alkalinity (NaOH 10-13 M). Different formulations (fly ash and borosilicate in mixtures of 70-30 wt% and 30-70 wt%, respectively) and physical ...

Fracture resistance via topology optimization

open access: yesStructural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, 2007
The fracture resistance of structures is optimised using the level-set method. Fracture resistance is assumed to be related to the elastic energy released by a crack propagating in a normal direction from parts of the boundary which are in tension, and is calculated using the virtual crack extension technique.

Evaluating the role of aggregate gradation on cracking performance of asphalt concrete for thin overlays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Thin asphalt concrete overlays are a maintenance technique that mainly restore the functional properties of pavements. One of the main issues in thin overlays is reflective cracking that can cause early deterioration and reduce their service life.

Characterization of Aluminized Layers on Inconel‐738 Alloy: Microstructure, Modeling of Aluminizing Kinetics, and Thermal Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explored how effective nickel aluminide coatings are obtained in providing oxidation resistance applied to the Inconel 738 alloy, modeling with diffusion models. In the present study, kinetics and thermal behavior of the Inconel 738 alloy were studied by the low‐temperature thermoreactive aluminizing process, which was carried out at 625°C ...
