High‐Latitude Off‐Great Circle Propagation Associated With the Solar Terminator

open access: yesRadio Science, Volume 59, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract Large‐scale ionospheric gradients associated with the solar terminator can deflect high frequency (HF) radio waves to off‐great circle paths during the morning and evening, negatively impacting technologies reliant on HF radio wave propagation.

Statistical Analysis of Off‐Great Circle Radio Wave Propagation in the Polar Cap

open access: yesRadio Science, Volume 59, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract High latitude ionospheric density structures such as polar cap patches and arcs are capable of deflecting high frequency (HF) radio waves to off‐great circle paths, and are likely detrimental to technologies dependent on HF radio propagation.

Exomoon Phase Curves: Toroidal Exosphere Simulations of Exo‐Ios Orbiting 8 Exoplanets in Alkali Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 129, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract Toroidal atmospheres and exospheres characterized at exoplanets may be fueled by volcanically active exomoons, often referred to as exo‐Ios. We study the neutral outgassing and volatile evolution of a close‐orbiting, evaporating satellite at eight candidate exoplanet‐exomoon systems WASP‐49,‐96,‐69,‐17 b, XO‐2N b, HAT‐P‐1 b, HD‐189733 b, and ...

Investigation of island size effect on radiation distribution during attached and detached plasmas in the island divertor of W7-X

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
Mitigation of heat on the first wall through divertor operation is a key to a successful future fusion reactor. W7-X employs an island divertor to control the exhaust and heat load on the plasma impacting divertor plates.

GINGERINO: a high sensitivity ring laser gyroscope for fundamental and quantum physics investigation

open access: yesFrontiers in Quantum Science and Technology
Ring Laser Gyroscopes, based on the Sagnac effect, are currently the most sensitive rotation sensors. GINGERINO, a RLG installed underground, shows a proved sensitivity that enters the few frad/s regime in about 2.5 days of integration time. On one hand,

First Responder’s Assessment of Dangerousness (FRAD) - Gefährlichkeitsabklärung in der Notfallsituation

open access: yes, 2004
