Agronomic performance of new strawberry cultivars in southern Brazil

open access: yesRevista de Ciências Agroveterinárias, 2021
The choice of cultivars to be used by strawberry farmers is essential since it could determine the success of the crop. The present study aimed to evaluate the productive and qualitative performance of strawberry genotypes grown in Vacaria, RS, Brazil ...

Analysis of strawberry genetic collection (Fragaria L.) for Rca2 and Rpfl genes with molecular markers

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2018
Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) varieties are susceptible to many fungal diseases. Identification of forms, carrying resistance genes, is an important stage in breeding programs leading to resistant varieties.

Structural and Affinity Determinants in the Interaction between Alcohol Acyltransferase from F. x ananassa and Several Alcohol Substrates: A Computational Study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Aroma and flavor are important factors of fruit quality and consumer preference. The specific pattern of aroma is generated during ripening by the accumulation of volatiles compounds, which are mainly esters.

Fungicide Non‐Target Effects Cause Reduced Sawfly Herbivory in Treated and Neighbouring Strawberry Plants

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Application of the fungicide Switch 62.5 WG in garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa), targeting Botrytis cinerea, reduced sawfly (Cladius spp.) herbivory by up to 94% and improved fruit quality. This non‐target effect also spilled over to neighbouring untreated plants, lowering damage by 46%.

Hydromulches in Organic Strawberry Production: Effects on Densities of Insect Pests and Natural Enemies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Liquid‐sprayable cellulose hydromulches (HM) are alternatives to plastic polyethylene (PE) mulches for weed suppression in organic agriculture. However, their impact on arthropod pests and natural enemies remains unexplored. Various HMs made of shredded newsprint, water and guar gum were compared against white‐on‐black PE mulch, paper sheet ...

Weight loss of fruits of strawberry cultivars in different conditions and storage periods

open access: yesVértices, 2016
The aim of the study was to evaluate strawberry cultivars for mass weight of fruit in different conditions and storage periods. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a factorial of eight strawberry cultivars (Festival, Campinas, Toyonoka ...

Heat-stress Tolerance of Some Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) Cultivars

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2013
Physiological parameters were used to investigate genotypic variations in 15 strawberry cultivars [‘Aromas’, ‘Camarosa’, ‘Carmine’, ‘Cal. Giant 3’ (CG3), ‘Cal. Giant 5’ (CG5), ‘Elsanta’, ‘Fern’, ‘Festival’, ‘Honeoye’, ‘Kabarla’, ‘Redlands Hope’ (R.Hope), ‘Ruby Gem’, ‘Selva’, ‘Sweet Charlie’ and ‘Whitney’] and their relationship to heat-stress tolerance

Genomic variation drives plant flavor diversification

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explains how genomic variation shapes plant flavor by altering the biosynthetic and regulatory pathways of key attributes like sweetness, acidity, bitterness, piquancy, astringency, and aroma. It also discusses how multi‐omics, AI‐assisted breeding, and gene editing can translate this knowledge into plants with improved flavor, nutrition ...

Genetic variations of strawberry cultivars of Fragaria x ananassa and Fragaria vesca based on RAPD

open access: yesBiodiversitas Journal of Biological Diversity, 2019
Abstract. Aristya GR, Kasiamdari RS, Setyoningrum R, Larasati B. 2019. Genetic variations of strawberry cultivars of Fragaria x ananassa and Fragaria vesca based on RAPD. Biodiversitas 20: 770-775. In Indonesia, the increasing market demand for strawberries (Fragaria spp.) is not comparable to increased strawberry productivity.
