Seismic Fragility Assessment of Hiraya Building Using Fragility Curves

open access: yesSeismic Fragility Assessment of Hiraya Building Using Fragility Curves
The Hiraya Building, a three-story educational facility at Caraga State University-Main Campus in Ampayon, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Caraga Region, is situated near the Surigao segment of the Philippine Fault, making it highly susceptible to seismic activity due to the country's location within the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Vertical Seismic Effect on the Seismic Fragility of Large-Space Underground Structures

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
The measured vertical peak ground acceleration was larger than the horizontal peak ground acceleration. It is essential to consider the vertical seismic effect in seismic fragility evaluation of large-space underground structures.

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Developing tsunami fragility curves based on the satellite remote sensing and the numerical modeling of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2011
The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami damaged and destroyed numerous buildings and houses in Thailand. Estimation of tsunami impact to buildings from this event and evaluation of the potential risks are important but still in progress.

Stochastic approach for analytical fragility curves

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering, 2008
One of the main problems is the assessment of “residual reliability” or “vulnerability” of a single existing structure, or of a given class of similar structures, against seismic actions. The fragility curves describe the probability of a structure to suffer a given damage level when it is subject to a given seismic excitation level. This research work

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Seismic fragility curve development by coupling FERUM and ZEUS-NL

open access: yes, 2013
Accurate seismic fragility curve has been recognized as a key to effective seismic risk assessment and management. Existing methodologies for seismic fragility curve development can be classified into four groups: empirical, judgmental, analytical, and ...
