Seismic assessment of a multi-span steel railway bridge in Turkey based on nonlinear time history [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2018
Many research studies have shown that bridges are vulnerable to earthquakes, graphically confirmed by incidents such as the San Fernando (1971 USA), Northridge (1994 USA), Great Hanshin (1995 Japan), and Chi-Chi (1999 Taiwan) earthquakes, amongst many

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

First-order approximation towards empirical seismic vulnerability assessment of low-cost unreinforced masonry buildings in South Africa

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
The 5 August 2014 Orkney earthquake in South Africa caused significant damage to low-cost unreinforced masonry buildings. After the earthquake, post-earthquake surveys were conducted to assess damage and deduce the intensity experienced by these ...

Uncertainty and Quality rating in Analytical Vulnerability Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Fragility curves represent a major component of seismic risk and vulnerability assessment of buildings and infrastructure facilities. A recently conducted extensive literature review under the framework of developing the “GEM Guide for Selecting of ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Seismic fragility analysis of subway station structures considering statistical uncertainty of seismic demands

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
To avoid the epistemic uncertainty for seismic fragility of subway station structures caused by the incomplete seismic demand sample set, a novel procedure of seismic fragility analysis of subway station structures considering the statistical uncertainty

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Seismic performance assessment of subway station structures considering fuzzy probability of damage states

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2022
Quantification of structural damage states in the fragility analysis and seismic performance evaluation of underground structures usually adopts the deterministic threshold values, which is a limitation in the framework of performance-based seismic ...
