Tuning the Fragility of a Glass-Forming Liquid by Curving Space [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2008
We investigate the influence of space curvature, and of the associated "frustration", on the dynamics of a model glassformer: a monatomic liquid on the hyperbolic plane. We find that the system's fragility, i.e. the sensitivity of the relaxation time to temperature changes, increases as one decreases the frustration. As a result, curving space provides

An investigation on vulnerability assessment of steel structures with thin steel shear wall through development of fragility curves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2017
Fragility curves play an important role in damage assessment of buildings. Probability of damage induction to the structure against seismic events can be investigated upon generation of afore mentioned curves.

Fragility Curves and Probabilistic Seismic Demand Models on the Seismic Assessment of RC Frames Subjected to Structural Pounding

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This study aims to evaluate five different methodologies reported in the literature for developing fragility curves to assess the seismic performance of RC structures subjected to structural pounding.

A reliability assessment of physical vulnerability of reinforced concrete walls loaded by snow avalanches [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2014
Snow avalanches are a threat to many kinds of elements (human beings, communication axes, structures, etc.) in mountain regions. For risk evaluation, the vulnerability assessment of civil engineering structures such as buildings and dwellings exposed to ...

Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Corruagted Steel Shear Walls Using Fragility Curves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2019
Structural damages and subsequently considerable economic losses that ever made in catastrophic seismic events caused reaserchers and codes gradually move from prescriptive design to performance-based design.

THE DISTRIBUTION CURVE OF ERYTHROCYTE FRAGILITY [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1949
Abstract 1. A simple method of representing erythrocyte fragility as a distribution curve of actual cellular fragility is described. 2. The importance of deciding the form of a distribution before using summarizing statistics is emphasized. 3.

Integrating Building- and Site-Specific and Generic Fragility Curves into Seismic Risk Assessment: A PRISMA-Based Analysis of Methodologies and Applications

open access: yesCivilEng
Fragility curves are fundamental tools in seismic risk assessments, providing insights into the vulnerability of structures to earthquake-induced damages. These curves, which plot the probability of a structure reaching or exceeding various damage states

Fragility assessment for electric cabinet in nuclear power plant using response surface methodology

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
An approach for collapse risk assessment is proposed to evaluate the vulnerability of electric cabinet in nuclear power plants. The lognormal approaches, namely maximum likelihood estimation and linear regression, are introduced to establish the ...
