ABSTRACT Background Outcomes in relapsed or refractory pediatric and AYA bone sarcomas remain poor, and the impact of early referral to specialized sarcoma centers on survival is unclear. Early centralization of care may improve local and systemic treatment quality, but evidence in this population is limited.

ABSTRACT Background Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is a common condition among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) and is the leading cause of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in this population. Growing evidence suggests that social determinants of health (SDOH) influence menstrual bleeding patterns, access to care, and treatment. However, no studies have

The application of the fragment-based screening approach to RmlA protein and PA1645 structure [PDF]
P. aerguinosa is a serious human bacterial pathogen. This thesis describes attempts to use structural biology to identify new starting points for drugs against P.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Natural Fragment Bond Orbital Method for Inter-Fragment Bonding Interaction Analysis [PDF]
A complex chemical system is often examined based on their fragments, so fragment-based analysis is the key to chemical understanding. We report the natural fragment bond orbital (NFBO) method for inter-fragment bonding interaction analysis, as an ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Fragment-based screening with natural products for novel anti-parasitic disease drug discovery
Introduction: Fragment-based drug discovery can identify relatively simple compounds with low binding affinity due to fewer binding interactions with protein targets.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

‘Vistas framed by a ruined door’: Anthony Powell’s Poetics of Ruins
‘There is something inherently beautiful in ruined shapes’, Anthony Powell observed in his review of Rose Macaulay’s Pleasure of Ruins, later giving expression in his fiction to the aesthetic delight experienced in the contemplation of ruined buildings ...
