Some Effects of Curvature on Frames

Journal of the Aerospace Sciences, 1958
Induced radial loadings due to curvature can cause drastic changes in the stress distribution on the cross section of aircraft frames from that predicted by elementary bending theory. In the present paper, the exact theoretical solution for the stress distribution is reviewed for simple plate elements.

Frame-of-Reference and Hierarchical-Organisation Effects in the Rod-and-Frame Illusion

Perception, 1997
Two hypotheses proposed as alternatives by Rock—frame of reference and hierarchical organisation of perception—were tested in a series of experiments with the use of the rod-and-frame illusion. This illusion produces errors in the apparent vertical due to the presence of a tilted frame surrounding the test rod.

Fading Frames: Data Presentation and Framing Effects*

Decision Sciences, 1992
ABSTRACTThis article describes three experiments that investigate the impact of data presentation on framing, which is the differential evaluation of objectively equivalent information given different frames of reference. The experiments were designed to vary the amount of information and the format of presentation (tables versus graphs) provided to ...

Framing effects

Framing effects describe the influence of the way information is presented on people's interpretation and perception of specific issues. This entry provides an overview of cognitive, attitudinal, affective, and behavioral framing effects in political communication research.

Issue Importance as a Moderator of Framing Effects

Communication Research, 2009
A growing amount of research is devoted to the question of which individual and contextual variables enhance, limit, or obliterate news framing effects. However, the fundamental question whether framing effects vary depending on the issue at stake has not been addressed. Based on two experimental studies (total N = 1,821), this article investigates the

Frames, Framing Effects, and Survey Responses

2012
What the public thinks about crime and about the criminal justice system’s response to crime partly depends upon how stories are framed. Internal and external frames are central themes that make certain information more critical and guide inferences and emotions about expressed opinions, attitudes, or decisions.

On the Limits of Framing Effects: Who Can Frame?

The Journal of Politics, 2001
Public opinion often depends on which frames elites choose to use. For example, citizens' opinions about a Ku Klux Klan rally may depend on whether elites frame it as a free speech issue or a public safety issue. An important concern is that elites face few constraints to using frames to influence and manipulate citizens' opinions. Indeed, virtually no

Frame Dragging and Lense-Thirring Effect

General Relativity and Gravitation, 2004
The author describes some phenomena due to spin and mass-energy currents on clocks and photons. In particular the delay in the travel time of photons due to the spin of a body is obtained both inside a rotating shell and outside a rotating body. The author reviews the 1995-2001 measurements of the gravitomagnetic field of Earth and Lense-Thirring ...
