Prescribing of Medication to Prevent Glucocorticoid Harms in Patients With Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A Cross‐Sectional Study and Two Emulated Target Trials in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common indication for long‐term glucocorticoid (GC) treatment. Bone‐protective and gastroprotective medications are recommended for those at high risk of adverse events from GCs, but no trials have evaluated their effectiveness in PMR.

The impact of a FRAX-based intervention threshold in Turkey: the FRAX-TURK study

open access: yesArchives of Osteoporosis, 2012
With the development of country-specific FRAX® tools to estimate fracture probability, guidance is required on the fracture probability at which treatment can be recommended. The aim of the present study was to determine FRAX-based intervention thresholds in men and women from Turkey and determine their population impact.Intervention thresholds for ...

The Relationship Between the FRAX Tool and Bone Turnover Markers in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

open access: yes, 2013
Aim: In this study, we aimed to show the correlation between the ten-year fracture risk, calculated with FRAX and bone turnover markers (BTM) in a group of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

Allelic association in the FRAX region [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Human Genetics, 2000
The sex chromosomes enable direct determination of haplotypes, and the analysis of 8 microsatellite markers from the FRAX region on Xq27‐q28 contributes 7219 independent haplotypes from our study in Wessex. Allelic association increases with frequency of alleles, and is less for trinucleotide than dinucleotide repeats.

What Happens After Menopause (WHAM)? A Progress Report of a Prospective Controlled Study of Women After Pre‐Menopausal Risk‐Reducing Bilateral Salpingo‐Oophorectomy

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Surgical menopause, the removal of both ovaries prior to natural menopause, may impact short‐and long‐term physical and emotional health. An increasingly common cause of surgical menopause is risk‐reducing salpingo‐oophorectomy (RRSO) in those at high inherited risk of ovarian cancer.

Do Additional Clinical Risk Factors Improve the Performance of Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX) Among Postmenopausal Women? Findings From the Women's Health Initiative Observational Study and Clinical Trials

open access: yesJBMR Plus, 2019
The ability of the fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX) to discriminate between women who do and do not experience major osteoporotic fractures (MOFs) is suboptimal. Adding common clinical risk factors may improve discrimination.

PGT-M With or Without Triplet Repeat Detection for Fragile X Syndrome

open access: yesFertility & Reproduction, 2022

FRAX® assessment of osteoporotic fracture probability in Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A Swiss-specific FRAX model was developed. Patient profiles at increased probability of fracture beyond currently accepted reimbursement thresholds for bone mineral density (BMD) measurement by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and osteoporosis treatment ...
