1985The word ‘large’ applied to Stirling engines means different things to different people. An engine having a 3 kW output would be large to those working on artificial hearts or cryocoolers for electronic applications. It would be small, negligibly so, to those interested in locomotive propulsion.

Free Piston Engine Its Application and Optimization
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2000<div class="htmlview paragraph">A free piston internal combustion engine coupled with a linear generator is proposed for hybrid vehicle application. The engine works on CI two-stroke cycle with direct fuel injection. Uniflow was chosen for an efficient scavenge process.
