Free boundary problems in biology [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2015
In this paper, I review several free boundary problems that arise in the mathematical modelling of biological processes. The biological topics are quite diverse: cancer, wound healing, biofilms, granulomas and atherosclerosis. For each of these topics, I describe the biological background and the mathematical model, and then proceed to state ...

Peculiarities of the dynamics of a viscous liquid with a free boundary under periodic influences [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Прикладная нелинейная динамика
Purpose of the work is revealing and researching of peculiarities of a motion of a viscous liquid having a free boundary and undergoing periodic in time influences which are characterized by the absence of a predominant direction in space. Methods.

Two-dimensional Thermocapillary Fluid Motion in an Open Channel

open access: yesИзвестия Иркутского государственного университета: Серия "Математика", 2022
The problem of two-dimensional thermocapillary fluid motion in a flat channel is studied. The temperature in the liquid is distributed according to the quadratic law, which is consistent with the velocity field of the Himentz type.

Bijective parameterization with free boundaries [PDF]

open access: yesACM Transactions on Graphics, 2015
We present a fully automatic method for generating guaranteed bijective surface parameterizations from triangulated 3D surfaces partitioned into charts. We do so by using a distortion metric that prevents local folds of triangles in the parameterization and a barrier function that prevents intersection of the chart boundaries.

New developments in econophysics: Option pricing formulas

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
We synthesize and discuss some new developments in econophysics. In doing so, we focus on option pricing. We relax the assumptions of constant volatility and interest rate. In doing so, we rely on the square root of the Brownian motion.

On a Multistable Type of Free Boundary Problem with a Flux at the Boundary

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2023
This paper studies the free boundary problem of a multistable equation with a Robin boundary condition, which may be used to describe the spreading of the invasive species with the solution representing the density of species and the free boundary representing the boundary of the spreading region. The Robin boundary condition

Asymptotic Behavior for Radially Symmetric Solutions of a Logistic Equation with a Free Boundary

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2017
In this paper we investigate a logistic equation with a new free boundary condition appearing in ecology, we aim to describe the spreading of a new or invasive species by studying the asymptotic behavior of the radially symmetric solutions of the problem.

Natural Killer Cells in Paediatric Soft Tissue Sarcomas: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Paediatric soft tissue sarcomas (pSTS) are a rare and heterogeneous group of malignant tumours arising in tissues of mesenchymal origin. The role of natural killer (NK) cells in pSTS remains poorly understood, with evidence fragmented across small preclinical studies and early‐phase clinical trials.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Nanoprofilometry study of focal conic domain structures in a liquid crystalline free surface

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2017
This work presents the first high-resolution nanoprofilometry study consisting of nanoscale resolution surface profile measurements and high-quality visualization of a the free surface of a liquid crystal–air boundary.
