Stratification and segregation under laminar convection [PDF]
The paper is devoted to the study of the formation of stratification in an incompressible fluid due to convective laminar flows in horizontal layers heated from the side. Medium and intensive modes of stationary laminar thermal, concentrational and thermo-concentrational (in particular thermohaline) convection are considered, in which nonlinear flow ...

A possible theory for the interaction between convective activities and vortical flows [PDF]
Theoretical studies usually attribute convections to the developments of instabilities such as the static or symmetric instabilities of the basic flows. However, the following three facts make the validities of these basic theories unconvincing.

This study investigates the bond quality of co‐extruded aluminum–titanium hybrid profiles, focusing on the lateral angular co‐extrusion (LACE) process. It examines how heat treatments (HT) affect intermetallic phase formation, bond strength, and material properties.

Developing process parameters for the laser‐based Powder Bed Fusion of metals can be a tedious task. Based on melt pool depth, the process parameters are transferable to different laser scan speeds. For this, understanding the melt pool scaling behavior is essential, particularly for materials with high thermal diffusivity, as a change in scaling ...

Magma flow through elastic-walled dikes [PDF]
A convection–diffusion model for the averaged flow of a viscous, incompressible magma through an elastic medium is considered. The magma flows through a dike from a magma reservoir to the Earth’s surface; only changes in dike width and velocity over ...

Hybrid materials enable high‐performance components but are challenging to process. This study explores an inductive heating concept with spray cooling for steel–aluminum specimens in a two‐step process including friction welding and cup backward extrusion.

Numerical Simulations of Convective Accretion Flows in Three Dimensions [PDF]
Advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) are known to be convectively unstable for low values of the viscosity parameter alpha. Two-dimensional axisymmetric hydrodynamic simulations of such flows reveal a radial density profile which is significantly flatter than the rho~r^{-3/2} expected for a canonical ADAF.

USING MODES OF FREE OSCILLATION OF A ROTATING VISCOUS FLUID IN THE LARGE-SCALE DINAMO [PDF]
Considered a model of large-scale magneto-convection in a roteting spherical shell. Velocity expressed of the one of the modes of free oscillation of a viscous conduction fluid in the shell. The stationary modes of convection were found.

A novel approach for alloy development in laser powder bed fusion is introduced. Instead of producing massive samples of one composition at a time, prepressed powder bed samples produced from powder mixtures are processed. Guidelines for the selection of precursor powders are developed.
