Effect of the Spatially-Varied Electron Mean Free Path on Vortex Matter in a Superconducting Pb Island Grown on Si (111)

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2023
In this work we report theoretical calculations of a superconducting island in a strong vortex confinement regime. The obtained results reveal the evolution of the superconducting condensate with an applied magnetic field, depending on the spatial ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Initial Steps in the Reaction of H2O2 with Fe2+ and Fe3+ Ions: Inconsistency in the Free Radical Theory

open access: yesReactions, 2023
Consideration of the changes in free energy shows that the assumed initial steps in reactions of H2O2 with Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the free radical theory are not consistent.

Free Energy Formalism for Particle Adsorption

open access: yes, 2005
The equilibrium properties of particles adsorption is investigated theoretically. The model relies on a free energy formulation which allows to generalize the Maxwell-Boltzmann description to solutions for which the bulk volume fraction of potentially ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Analytic Free-Energy Expression for the 2D-Ising Model and Perspectives for Battery Modeling

open access: yesBatteries, 2023
Although originally developed to describe the magnetic behavior of matter, the Ising model represents one of the most widely used physical models, with applications in almost all scientific areas.

Free Energy Approximations for CSMA networks

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we study how to estimate the back-off rates in an idealized CSMA network consisting of $n$ links to achieve a given throughput vector using free energy approximations.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Atomistic simulation of voltage activation of a truncated BK channel

open access: yeseLife
Voltage-dependence gating of ion channels underlies numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes, and disruption of normal voltage gating is the cause of many channelopathies.
