The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender.

On zero-free intervals of flow polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B, 2015
This article studies real roots of the flow polynomial $F(G,λ)$ of a bridgeless graph $G$. For any integer $k\ge 0$, let $ξ_k$ be the supremum in $(1,2]$ such that $F(G,λ)$ has no real roots in $(1,ξ_k)$ for all graphs $G$ with $|W(G)|\le k$, where $W(G)$ is the set of vertices in $G$ of degrees larger than $3$. We prove that $ξ_k$ can be determined by

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

A general free cash flow theory of capital structure

open access: yesJournal of Business Economics and Management, 2014
This paper provides general framework for handling time-varying cost of capital, leverage, tax rates, and capital values in a dynamic free cash flow theory of capital structure.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Influence of the hydrofoil inclination angle at free surface flow around junctions

open access: yesAnnals of "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galaţi: Fascicle XI Shipbuilding, 2020
Free surface flow is a hydrodynamic problem with a seemingly simple geometric configuration but with a flow topology complicated by the pressure gradient due to the presence of the obstacle, the interaction between the boundary layer and the free surface,
