Free space propagation without free space
SPIE Proceedings, 2013We present a novel, fast and easy measurement technique to measure the beam propagation factor M 2 of laser beams using a spatial light modulator (SLM). Two different measurement procedures are outlined, that are both based on digitally simulating the free space propagation of the beam.

Free-space optical interconnection scheme
Applied Optics, 1989One of the limiting factors in the design of large scale digital systems is communication [1]. The use of conventional wiring for high speed communication entails high energy dissipation, crosstalk, ground loops and low interconnect density due to physical size constraints.

In this paper we study the spaces X having the property that the space of free loops on X is equivalent in some sense to the product of X by the space of based loops on X. We denote by ΛX the space of all continuous maps from S1 to X, with the compact-open topology.

Free-space optical components and systems can be fabricated using planar techniques such as pattern generation using an electron-beam writer, photolithography, reactive ion etching and thin film deposition. This allows to integrate several optical components such as lenses and beamsplitters on one side of a single substrate [1]; see Fig. 1.

The difficult problems associated with the entry of dissolved substances into plant cells have been made more difficult by failure to envisage the prop erties which must be attributed to the cells in order to account for their known behaviour in a wide range of treatments.

The renaissance of serious interest26–28 in the transfer of power by radio waves is doubtless the result of technological gains in microwave radar and communication systems over the past 25 years, and also the more recent demonstration that microwave energy should be generated at power levels appropriate to some applications of wireless power transfer.
